I do not FEAR the law.
I respect the laws because those are the rules of society.
If I break the laws then I will fear the police and the penalties.
Being in fear of the police is quite different than having respect for the law.
Just out of curiosity - how old are you and what is your educational level.
We should not be debating basics such as semantics.

You do not fear the law unless you break it. In our socialty these rules/laws are there for a reason. Just like your father was.

Why would you fear the police, they are public servents and are there to help? Maybe because you know they are also there to enforce the law?

Fearing your dad is quite different then respecting his rules. But it kept you in check didn't it. If it didn't, you new what the penalty was as you did it anyway.
So to add to you first statement about the subject.
"Respect NEVER comes from fear."
Never say never.

42, educational level? I would say it's some where in the stratosphere. If it's grades completed your asking i would have to say 11.

Why not, some people don't understand the basics or assume they know them. Just like respect NEVER coming from fear. I find it pecular that the fear for disregarding the law you automatically assign to the police officer. If that's the case then you must also fear the court, the judge, the lawyers?
