"Seabiscuit" is old school Hollywood epic filmmaking from the Golden Age. The fact that they now have CGI to make the horse racing look incredibly real helped the movie immeasurably but it's deminished on the small screen. The horse racing scenes do get the adrenalin pumpin'. but some may find the storytelling slow parts of the film not to their taste.

hmmm... all very interesting... (sarcasm's a bitch). sorry, but horseracing in general doesn't appeal to me so i don't think the movie would at all either.

What about the character study?

It really wasn't all about horse racing but was a character study of four distinct personalities and one of them happened to be a race horse.

ahhh. see i surprise myself sometimes. i think of myself as an open minded person, yet i wouldn't even think of watching seabiscuit because i thought it was about horseracing. still isn't something i'll watch any time soon, but thanks for the englightenment...

that kind of sounded sarcastic, but it was sincere lol

It's such a unique success story and it's a parable for one to ponder.

I wasn't interested in Seabiscuit, until several a2k members praised it highly. It is very good. If I were in the business of making such films, I would have recast the story to make it a bit shorter. But I am glad I spent the time with it.

The omission of Red getting married was one of the story shortening alterations and I've thought about how they could have trimmed it down further as they were telling the story of three people and a horse, I couldn't see how they could shorten it any more than they did.

Not necessarily and welcome to A2K and the film forum, sativa. "Animal House" is a great comedy but if it makes you cringe, such is law of one man's meat is another man's poison.

oh that's right... forgive me, i forgot that this is the place to name movies that made us cringe. Animal House didn't make me cringe, only laugh.

And thanks for the welcome Smile
--PS-- I consider myself mostly simple, but i like your choice and use of words, lightwizard... it is almost an art how they flow together. (i know it's off topic and pointless, just thought i'd let you know lol)

Well, except for the typo which I corrected! But thanks.

It doesn't make any difference if one has had creative writing classes or just expresses their thoughts in their own online vernacular. We aren't that serious around here that we can't have some fun. Very Happy

Mulholland Drive,

I usually like experimental movies , but this made me cringe. The plot was unsatisfying. The whole movie ran like some sleazy old porn film masquerating as high art. I have seen movies which were a lot more explicit than this without bothering, but they could have at least tried with the plot. I couldn't relate to any of the characters, especially not the lead female I'm sure that you were meant to relate to but seemed more like a sex kitten from some old pervert's mind than a believable female character. But I suppose that the whole point of the film was how ri diculous and soulless show businessness is, and they achieved that end well.

Zoolander is a good movie when you are exhausted and don't want to think at all. I agree, you need to watch it a few times to appreciate how wonderfully crappy and mediocre a film can be. It's like a senseless ritual , "the Zoolander meditation". But Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson ( is that right) will have that affect on you ( except in "The Royal Tennenbaums", which was wonderful). The only movie that I can think which surpasses "Zoolander" for being pure unadulturated drivel is "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back".

One of my cable stations is running promos for The Bird Cage. This reminded me of some cringing. Yes, on the whole I enjoyed the movie, but I cringed at the son's callousness toward the person who had nurtured and loved him. Not as critical as the cringe-worthy flaw in thinking. Why was the whole thing hinged on one night, one visit? It's not as if in-laws would never meet again.

BTW, this was explained a bit in the original version, the French La Cage au Folles. But it just doesn't make sense in the American version.

I'm done ranting and rambling.
