@msolga,
a political junkie is a political junkie is a political junkie

even when I don't understand the fine points of another jurisdiction's political process, I love to read about it (and look at the political cartoons - I've loved those since I was about 9 or 10 years old)

Ah, what would mere gamblers know, anyway?

(check out the Liberals' ad on the right hand side of the linked page.)

Hundreds of punters have raced to place bets on a Coalition victory on the back of opinion polls showing late support for Tony Abbott becoming prime minister.

I recall you talking about this interest (I call it an addiction Smile ) on another thread, Beth. And the strong influence of your mother.

@msolga,
I don't see the same ad you do. I was looking forward to it (they must wonder what ads to throw in for North American readers).

@ehBeth,
Really? That's interesting, Beth.

I just checked & it's still there .. here, anyway.

More Labor
More Debt
More taxes
More Talk.

With flashing (changing) Labor ministers' faces.

I'm not going to say anymore, as I have no wish to add to the Libs' campaign. Wink

They're pulling out all stops today! Eek! Shocked

@msolga,
I'm hoping the shrieking of the right might grate on the nerves of the undecided centre.

@hingehead,
Yes, I hope that'll be the case, too, hinge.

Though how could anyone be "undecided" at this stage? Kinda makes you wonder, don't it ..? Confused Rolling Eyes

Like Tasmania?

Now that would be interesting, wouldn't it?

Sure would. Lots of chatter about it today as a serious possibility.

I also heard more than 12% of the population have pre-polled, which doesn't get counted until Wednesday. So if seats are close (as oppossed to the sum of seats being close) then we may not have a result for some time.

@realjohnboy,

Do you have early voting in Aus? In the U.S. an increasing number of jurisdictions allow for people to mail in ballots weeks ahead of the official voting date. It supposedly gets voter participation rates up but it could also mean that events in the last week or so have little impact on the outcome.

Yes we do. Although I am not completely housebound, I found at the last state election that the voting process was too physically demanding so this time I applied for a postal (early) vote and have already sent my vote back to the Electoral Office.

Yes, one does miss out on the last minute 'sales specials' that may change one's mind, but this is compensated for by being able to relax and enjoy the bun fight.

@Eorl,
Possibly have a Great Britain situation? ALP and the greens forming a coalition to govern? Like the tories and the lib dems?

@hingehead,
Only 1 green is a chance in lower house it seems (Melbourne) so could be a rough alliance of extras working together to achieve their joint objectives. Bob Katter and a Green in bed together!!

Can you really see that happening here, hinge?

The Greens members would go nuts. They'd be furious!

Though, I can see the Greens obliging Labor in other ways ... for sure.

@realjohnboy,
Good morning, RJB!
I'll be walking down to the polling station (at the local primary school) soon.
I confess to being a wee bit jittery. (I hope hinge is OK! Wink )
I'm not game to read the online news, in case there's been some 11th hours bombshell. If there is, I don't want to know!

Hear we go, guys. Fingers crossed!

@msolga,
I've got Vote 1 the Greens on A2k banner ad today.

Also of interest, the Secular Party of Australia will be on the senate ticket this time. Last time they were listed independent. I wonder if they'll do any better?

@Eorl,
At least there's no daylight savings this time. To my absolute horror and disgust a certain national broadcaster ran the election coverage in one hour delay last time, meaning I had to watch it elsewhere. Can you imagine such a trusted broadcaster still trying to predict the outcome while the other channels were running the concession speech ?!?
