I only just found out that Noel Pearson's column hasn't appeared in the Australian since February. Because he's fallen out with the editor an senior indigenous affairs reporter. Apparently because the Australian is investigating a story about financial shenanigans at Djarragun College and because Noel had recently acquired it he wanted to kill the story. They wouldn't.

I'm shocked at having to respect the Australian. The Djarragun matters should be investigated - they predate Pearson's involvement - his concern is understandable, but no justification.

Noel has been undergoing chemotherapy, currently in remission.

Story here http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/opinion/political-news/pearson-tells-of-his-struggle-with-cancer-20120803-23kl7.html

Noel and his brother are on record as saying they don't friends, just people who are useful to them. They're treading water until the expected change next federal election, when they think the money will start pouring in again.

@hingehead,
Hi msolga. Have been trying to send you this PM for hours but they won't let me and having lost your e-mail address this is the only way I can get it to you. Smile
Hi Olga. Have sent everybody a PM thanking them for their great support. When I came to you I got the following message: In order to prevent mass-message spam, we limit the amount of users you can send messages to. Please wait an hour before sending messages to additional members.

So I'll try again. LOL All went very smoothly yesterday, in at 10am, on the operating table by 12 noon and out again at 2pm. As suspected another blocked artery was the cause of all my troubles. The Cardiologist used a balloon to open up the artery and coated the inside of a stent with a special substance which hopefully will keep the artery open. Will be monitored closely over the next few weeks as this was a new procedure he used.

Marvellous what they can do these days Olga, here I am home again after just one day in Hospital and feeling wonderful. Walked out of Hospital under my own steam as compared of going in in a wheelchair. LOL Thanks for your interest and support.

Bye for now.
Dutchy.

@Dutchy,
I've been stopping by the Oz threads for years now. I, in the U.S., rarely feel qualified to comment, of course.
Best wishes on a quick recovery, Dutchy.

@dlowan,
Thanks dlowan, I intend to, as soon as I have recovered enough strength. Going for a small stroll in the dreamlands of the Laffer's triangle at the rear of my house shortly. Very tranquill area amid southern suburbia.

Other news.
From this morning's ABC News:

Quote:
Eminent Australians, led by former prime minister Malcolm Fraser, are calling for an independent inquiry into the decisions which led to Australia joining the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003

Australia urged to hold Iraq war inquiry:

@msolga,
msolga Mr. Fraser is correct and Mr. Downer is wrong. Australia was merely a puppet of the Americans, when President Bush said jump, Little Johnny Howard was only to eager to oblige. Australia should have never been involved in that war. What have the Iraqi pople ever done to us? Answer me that one!

Crushed to hear rumours Campbell is freezing housing construction spending in Aurukun to contemplate outsourcing. 15 indigenous apprentices about to lose their jobs 2/3 of the way through their apprenticeships.

Today's cartoons are not all that exciting.
Mostly about the plain packaging issue.

So Abbott can no longer make hay with the "boat people" issue.
Only the "carbon tax" left, before he's left with no option but to actually say something vaguely substantial!

@msolga,
The population of Aurukun is just over a thousand. Some families have generations that have never known a parent in employment. The apprentices were identified as talented and committed. Giving hope to young people at the start of their lives. Giving their future children role models. Whatever it costs you do what you can to break that cycle of desparation and dependence. To **** on the investment in 1.5% of the population is criminally ignorant or negligent. Forgive my vituperation, it's secondhand from Mrs Hinge.
