The car has been sitting for several months. It started when I jumped it awhile ago but later it wouldn't. I got a new battery and still get nothing. No lights, radio not even a click when you turn the key.
Any ideas?

maybe a bad solenoid in the starter motor, if you get no click, if they still make starters the way they did several of my cars ago.

contact on the battery terminals is possibly poor. tap them with a hammer Loosen the lead connectors a little and twist the connector leads around the battery post a little. re tighten.

Alternatives.
1. The new battery you bought may need to be charged.
2. you have the leads connected to the wrong posts on the battery.
red = positive
black = negetive (usually the other end of this lead is bolted to the chassi or body of the car).

@dadpad,
one of these days, you go tapping battery posts with a hammer, you're gonna have one break off on you.

leave the hammer in the toolbox, sluggo...

cleaning and tightening all the contacts is always a good first step.

and connecting them backwards usually gives you a funny sign right away... Shocked

Hey, that's what I thought, too! Surprised

And as I know absolutely nothing about the inner workings of cars, I'm mightily impressed with myself! Very Happy

see, you can't even spell it without capitalizing it.

no hammers aloud.

@Anthea,
After checking that the contacts are tight and place in the right way, I would give it another jump to see if someone had sold you a discharge battery.

If it is a deeply discharge/non-charge battery new or not I would return it as a lead/acid cars batteries do not like to be deeply discharge and it life will likely be shorter then otherwise due to that condition.
