Network question window after Mac update

Mac users -

This morning I rather distractedly installed a recent update for the Mac, this a few days after it showed up as a prompt. (I'm usually more prompt..) One was for security (good, even great, I like to get those) and I didn't notice what the other one was.

But now I keep getting a window asking me about my networks and what to do regarding them with cancel and one other choice re my networks (sorry, that window not in front of me now to describe precisely). So far I've seen it three times today, and cancelled three times.

I don't use a network and never will. Is there a way to get rid of that annoying window? I haven't logged out of any site or shut down. I just came back from the grocery store, the screen in sleep mode, woke it up, and clicked on a2k and the damn thing showed up again (not a2k's fault).

Help!!

@ossobuco,
I don't have a Mac so I can't help but in Windows the network is 'detected' if a network card is installed. There might be a network card installed in your computer.

@ossobuco,
Hi Osso,

You are using a network to get to A2K. Are you on the MAC as you post these things?

It would help if you could report on the other option the message is giving you.

@rosborne979,
Ok, I copied the window:

None of your preferred networks are available.
Zwire 851 (I have no idea what that is)
Myquest1663 (that's my phone and dsl company)

(Cancel) (Join)

That's it, and it shows up every time I wake up the sleeping monitor.

@ossobuco,
Try this...

Click on the "Apple" on the top left of your menu bar. Then... System Preferences>Network>Airport>Uncheck "Ask to join new networks"

See if that helps.

In order to diagnose further I would need to understand how your machine normally connects to the network (Internet). For example, are you using a wireless connection (I'm guessing you are), or are you using an ethernet connection?

@rosborne979,
Just saw this - I'll try it. It (to date) still shows up, but not every single time I wake the screen.

@rosborne979,
Sorry, I've been ignoring this problem for a while..

I've got ethernet connected.

When I click on Networks, the page shows a column with
Ethernet Connected
Bluetooth Not Connected
FireWire Not Connected
Airport On

The bigger part of the page - On top, it says Location. Automatic
Configure: Using DHCP
IP address: (bla bla)
Subnet Mask (bunch of numbers)
Router: more numbers
DNS Server: more numbers
Search Domains: domain.actdsltmp

There's a place to click on Advanced (how to connect my modem via an ethernet cable to my computer - it's already connected)

There's a place to click for Assist Me, which will help me connect to new network setting should I wish..

And a Lock icon, should I wish to lock all this.

That's it, nothing about "unchecking" asking to join new networks...
(why would I want to?)

- I've seen the same None of Your Preferred Networks are available "window" at least daily. Well, the same window, but different networks listed almost every time.

I could call the Mac guys who fixed my hard drive a year ago.. but if you can help, I'd appreciate it.

I don't remember what Airport does - is that for Wireless? Maybe I should turn that off?

try turning airport off, it's probably picking up another network signal

@ossobuco,
Um, that's ominous.

All the numbers are gone from the big part of the screen, as had been described earlier, including IP address, and the Airport thing totally disappeared. (That was when I highlighted it and pressed the minus sign.) I clicked then on +, and it gives me an opportunity to get Airport 2.

I don't remember if I had Airport in the first place.. I mean originally. The first I saw of it was when I pulled up the Networks window today.

Now I clicked on what looks like a bursting sun (instead of a plus or minus) and it gives me these choices:
duplicate service
rename service
make service inactive
set service order
import configurations
manage virtual interfaces

Dammit, I'm a stranger in a strange land...

@ossobuco,
Oh, well, at least I can post.

We'll see if after the Machina sleeps for awhile, if the benighted window shows up again.

@ossobuco,
Thanks all, looks like getting rid of 'Airport on' worked.

@ossobuco,
Alas, I lied, that was only gone for a day...
