What is an Idea ideally?

I have been told in no uncertain terms that A2K is a place for ideas.
I was told this as an admonishment for disagreeing with someone.
So it confused me as to what an idea was.

So gentle pilgrims;
What is an idea?

And why can an idea never be questioned, probed or inspected?

@sometime sun,
Why would one think that ideas (or concepts or rational perspectives) are above being questioned, debated, or discussed? The whole history of humankind has been deeply involved with the examination, abandonment, and creation of ideas.
Perhaps the confusion is between disagreeing with an idea, and articulating the reasons for the disagreement, and on the other hand, making the disagreement one about the person, his motives and abilities.
