@La Dame,
LOL. I like the way some are suprized by how kids these days date so young. You think 13 is young? My neighbor is 6 and she already has a boyfriend!

By the way not all stuff you find on the internet is true. That recipe for losing weight is not true. Take it from a doctor, exercise and sleeping it off is an exelant combination that works!

@ddominique,
That's perfect except that life doesn't work that way. Sorry.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basal_animal_metabolic_rate Your resting caloric burn rate is just not that high. You burn far more calories through aerobic exercise, which is things like walking, running and bike riding.

This does not mean that sleep is unimportant. It is important for weight loss. But the idea that you burn more during REM sleep than on a treadmill is a load of unproven hooey, and rather dangerous to be giving out such patently false health info. Got any studies (and I mean real ones, not just, your Mom said it so it must be so) to back up your claims?

@bieberfever32798,
No, she's not. Allegedly her mother is some sort of weight loss specialist, but the "info" being given out is just plain wrong.

@jespah,
Yeah, Do you know me? Cause if you did, you might actually know if I was a doctor or not for a fact. You don't have to answer my question for me.

@jespah,
Huh, that's funny. How do you know that this fact isn't true? It is a fact actually that you can burn 3times more calories in REM sleep than on a treadmill. And a treadmill can be harmful to your bones. Go to Dr. Oz's website if you want proof. He's a very well known heart surgen and knows his facts. Just go to www.doctoroz.com or read a health book and learn something.
And by the way, I watch some of Dr.Oz's shows and I also read a lot of health books. My mother is smarter than you think. I don't have claims, I have facts. Just to let you know.

@bieberfever32798,
No I'm not a doctor. I never said that and am sorry that that's what people always think when one says that. What I meant by take it from a doctor was that Dr. Oz, a heart surgen that I get many facts from, has studied the facts and that I know the facts that I know from him and other health experts. I'm actually 16 so I obviously can't be a doctor. I do study a lot of health though and know a lot about being healthy.

@ddominique,
I'm sure your mother is a lovely woman. She's still wrong, sorry.

Try www.sparkpeople.com and read from real experts. As for Dr. Oz, as I recall, there are any number of scams being perpetrated in his name (you see them all the time as "Dr. Oz lost 40 lbs.!" or "Rachael Ray lost 30 lbs.!" or whatever).

I am sorry you are offended by what I wrote. Yes, there is some small amount of weight loss when you sleep. It's your resting metabolism. Everybody has this -- it does take a few calories to keep your heart and lungs going. But not too many. You burn more calories by exercising, and to suggest that people do better by not exercising is just plain irresponsible.

And I am sorry if you feel I offended your mother.

@jespah,
You keep saying that my mom is wrong as well as the heart surgen Dr. Oz, Jillian Michaels, as well as me. Well I don't see your proof at all. www.sparkpeople.com as well as wikipedia are non-reliable resources. If you ask Dr. Oz if sleeping loses 3x more weight than in the day, you'll find that my mother, myself, and the other health experts I've meantioned are correct. Just ask them a question on their websites.
You haven't shown me real evidence to counteract all of us real experts yet.

@ddominique,
You 'real experts' need to bring some science to the discussion.

@ddominique,
You have not addressed the subject of basal metabolic rate.

Please feel free to do so at this point. Bring numbers - not declarations.

@ddominique,
You are giving poor information on several threads to young persons wanting to diet. You are the one responsible for showing the science behind your enthusiastic declarations.

@ehBeth,
Yeah, I just said to look on the websites. Are you reading what you are writing? You can go to www.livestrong.com/article/28471-losing-weight-sleep-works/and http://www.drozfans.com/dr-ozs-advice/dr-oz-sleep-yourself-thin-dr-michael-breus-sleep-doctor-smoothie/
There's all the facts you need in these websites to prove my point well and show you a lot of info that includes bmr.

@ossobuco,
Read the websites I mentioned. The facts are there. If your saying that I'm the one giving the poor information, why don't you TRY to prove it. I'm sure you'll be able to counteract me well.

@ddominique,
No. You are the one irresponsibly leading people astray. Don't make others more knowledgeable than you are do your homework for you. Take a break and go look up basal metabolic rate.

@ossobuco,
You say that I need to do all the work for you? I gave you the websites, don't be lazy. If you are saying that I need to do my homework and you tell me that I'm wrong on this, why don't you support your own claim and do your own homework? Nothing in your statement proves you are more knowledgeable than me and that you are correct on this topic.

@ddominique,
Jespah has already explained where you are wrong.

Now it's up to you to counter with science, not with directions to pop culture programming.
