Right now there isn't read tracking, so most people use New Posts without it (but read tracking would be a very useful addition and is planned).

You must mean on the side column of some topic grids. That is a list of your own tags, so it includes any topics you tag those things and due to the import that is all you have there now.

The navigation for forums/tags needs a LOT of work. Right now it's inconsistent between showing user tags and global tags.
