No, not Cambodia.

This place is not part of what many in the Western world would think of as typically being part of Asia.

That should narrow it down! Smile

Oh, the "bonus points" question had to do with a Turkish leader. (I'll look up the name and position later, I'm dashing out the door.) I think he died in the palace, but the point being the time he died. It was 9:05 and the clocks in the palace were stopped at that time in honour of him. Apparently they are still stopped to this day.

I'll follow up later with the web sites I found it on.

As promised, here are a few tidbits about the Dolmabahçe Palace.

Quote:
Atatürk (Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic
and its first President) used to stay in this palace when he visited Istanbul. He died here in 1938. All the clocks in the palace were stopped at 9:05 am, the time of his death, in memory of this great Türk.

The Palace which is a museum today is open on certain days of the week, and it is one of those historic places in Istanbul that must be visited.

There are a lot of other interesting tourist spots on the page of the above link. Check it out! Smile

This is a picture I took of the harem at Topkapi Palace.http://photothru.com/photo_filedb1/A5/58/29/A55829/viewable/A55829_131C9C22F979_1.jpg

Topkapi Palace is one of the most fascinating places in Istanbul besides the Blue Mosque, the Bazaar, and San Sophia. The palace has jewels, the hand of John the Baptist, large emeralds, and Mohammed's hair and foot prints in metal (copper). I highly recommend a visit to Istanbul.

fealola, A sceptic heh? LOL My wife and I are not christians, but my brother and his wife are, so it had more meaning for them than it did for us. Wink
When we took a cruise on the Bosphorus from downtown Istanbul to the outskirts, we had lunch at a restaurant called the "garaj." Another couple sat with us, so I asked where they were from, and the guy answered "Lodi." That's where my brother lives. Also found out that he is a professor at the university in Stockton, and he has visited my brother's ophthalmology office for his eye checkups. What a small world! Wink
