[Country, city/town, name of building...you know the drill. Smile

Bonus points for describing a bit of interesting history related to something found inside the building. (Hope that doesn't sound too obscure.)

It's in Asia
Not: In India
Not: In Thailand
Not in The Phillipines
Not inspired by the White House
Not: a government building or library. I believe the building is likely owned and operated by the government (I don't know this for an absolute fact, but it's likely true) so in that sense it may be considered a government building, but its function is not to house government as, say, the House of Representatives in the U.S.

Clary's palatial comment was speculation. (Won't count that as a question this time even though Caprice answered it by saying it's more palatial than... ?a government building?) Try to answer questions only. Hints may be asked for at 10 questions.

Guesses:

Not:

Not: The former home of the Marcos famoily in Manila, Phillipines

fealola: I didn't consider my answer to Clary's comment as a "game" answer either. I just thought I'd provide a hint of sorts. Smile

Did someone famous live there. Hmmm...well someone did live there who would have been known to that person's fellow country(wo)men. But not famous in today's sense of the word. Not like Queen Elizabeth, or the Dalai Lama kind of famous where most outside the country would know the name.

What sort of hint should I give? Can ya give me direction on this? I would probably give something too vague.

The architecture of the face of the building seen in the picture is not typical of the region. In fact, I read at one site it was modelled in the french design of the time.
