Ann Ball was from Totnes. That's my guess.
About 20 miles ne of Plymouth!
i just read that ashburton is a historical town ... could that be it?
<mutters something about how all online pictures made in devon towns seem to have been made in coastal towns - with the lense turned seawards ...>
Ashburton is quite historical yes, but this is even more so. It is not a coastal town...
hmm .. theres not a whole lot of towns 20 miles ne of plymouth and 20 miles sw of exeter left in the atlas map (even if it
is the Times Atlas of the World ;-) ...
but on its
website the town of Newton Abbot claims 13th century origins ...
Newton Abbot is comparatively recent. This was one of the 4 oldest Devon towns, and is about 8 miles up a river.
and you're sure it hasnt already been mentioned?
<points up at danon's post>
