A hint? Hmmm....it was built in the late 1800's. Its function remains pretty much the same today as it did back then.

I know that is somewhat vague...I'm trying to think of something more specific without giving it away!

It isn't a tourist spot. (Other than being a landmark within the city it is located in.)

Well, I was rather sure re age (couldn't be 'original' in Canada  ) and not being a tourist spot.

But "Thanks" - I'll try to get some better ideas while cooking.

I really should get some sleep.

I'll try coming up with something better when I come back.

Name of the building -actual or ancient- and town/city would be fine

Saskatchewan
Calgary
Alberta

I really have not the slightest idea, caprice (and know now quite a bit about Canadian architecture, hotels, castles, public buildings ... Laughing ).

caprice : is it one of the famous/infamous prisons/asylumns ? we have several in the kingston area (kingston pen, P4W, frontenac instituion) and they look very much like it. when my parents visited in the 60's from germany, my father thought - upon first seeing them - that they must be the abode of some royal. we sure had a good laugh about that . hbg
