It's some 'Culture Center' in Dubna, if I remember correctly, you found it!

(My link is the Russian website of the Moscow [political] region. Found the English website later, but since it's time for going to bed, I didn't search any further.)

Since Caprice seems to have logged off I'm going to accept Walter's "you found it". Now, there's one person on here, and he knows who he is, that I'd like to ask to NOT immediately solve the next one.

This looks like the garage on a nearby farm

But it really could be in Europe (the 'Jägerzaun' ['hunter's fence']towards the street seems very European). Question

cjhsa: You guessed the location, but not the building. The little information I obtained referred to it as "the Cultural Centre 'Mir'". I don't know if 'Mir' is the name of the building or implies something else.

You can read a bit about it at the following URL.

http://www.jinr.dubna.su/HEACC'98/Ab_Dub1.html

(Please cut and paste, as A2K's linkage adds extra characters.)

Dubna is of interest since new elements were discovered by scientists at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research with the collaborative efforts of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the USA. (The JINR is located in Dubna.)
Recent news in physics

Whilst checking out Dubna, I found this interactive map of the community. Very amusing!

caprice, The "here" link doesn't work. Our friend retired from working at the Lawrence Lab in Berkeley. He's taken a couple of trips to Russia, China, and Korea, and still works 'part time' at the accelerator at Stanford. He retired about five years before me, but he still works. I've been retired since 1998, and I'm RETIRED. Wink

The garage is considered "the birthplace of silicon valley" as it housed the first works by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard in the late 1930's.

Bill and Dave begin part-time work in the garage with $538 in working capital.

My first guess was the shed in your backyard cjhsa. Very Happy

caprice, You're right! cjh asked me to cover for him, because he's gone for the day. That garage is about as famous as the Golden Gate Bridge for most people that have lived in Silicon Valley for about the past half century. It appears in our newspaper about every ten years or so.

Okay, my next one should be a cinch for a world traveller like you c.i. Wink

I edited the above post. I don't know why, but linking out of here adds in extra characters. The item about the cultural centre is about 1/2 way down the page.

I guess your friend's work was also a very integral part of his life! For anyone interested in physics, I'm certain it must fascinate them. I am not one of those people. *ahem* Wink
