Wow, I had no idea it was built that long ago! At least it was completed. Some government types have no vision....like where I live. *sigh*

Sydney...another place I want to visit! Smile

c.i.: Oh come now...you're perfectly photogenic! No reason not to have your pic taken. Wink

Actually, I'm not all that concerned about my looks, because I had no control on how I look. I'm sorta the end product of all my previous ancestors, so why worry about how we look? It's sorta like a crap shoot, isn't it? All I know is that many people have been kind and generous to me during most of my life, and that's important and enough for me. Wink

A good stylist might disagree with the latter part of that first sentence c.i. Wink

Seriously....sounds as though your life is a good one. A content life, if not happy during every day. Smile

caprice, I never worry about being "groomed" by a stylist. I often wonder why men bother to have plastic surgery. Vanity is not one of my life pursuits. ** Yes, I've been pretty lucky in most of my life's gifts of family, friends, and financial rewards. The more I travel this world, the more I appreciate the good karma of my life. My sister tells me it's because god has blessed me; she's a christian like all my siblings, and tells me she prays for me every day, but I'm an atheist. Wink

Here's an interesting tidbit we learned about the architect that designed the Sydney opera house. He didn't get the chance to see the finished construction for some reason.

Here's some interesting stats on the Sydney opera house. It just says that the architect resigned.

The architect, Joern Utzon, resigned marginally before he was pushed, by an unsympathetic, very pedestrian, minister. There were endless scandals over the details of the interior, exterior, lack of parking, and anything else you could think of.

Now, that architect, and his son, Jan, are overseeing some major renovations. But Joern Utzon still hasn't seen it, and is apparently too frail to visit now.

I have to say it's one of the magic places in the world - even though I live here. Walking back from the Opera House, after a concert, with your head filled with music, and the water all around you, is one of the great experiences. I'm always reminded how lucky I am to live here! Cool

Yep! Born in Sydney - about 3 miles east of city centre. Lived here in various places almost all my life, so far! (except for 6 months in the country when I was about 12 months old!).
Now live about 6 miles west of the mid city, in the cheaper end of one of the harbour suburbs!
I'm of Irish descent - and have the colouring - so the sun is a problem!

I dont know Margo whether you have ever thought back over your life and reflected on things you wished you had done but didn't, I have.

In the early eighties my very close friend went to live in Oz (he now lives in Cairns) I was chomping at the bit to go as well, but my father had just died and I didn't feel right about leaving mum so I stayed put, it's a decision I will regret for as long as I live.

Don't live in regret. Is it too late to come now? I do hope you've visited your friend - Cairns and the reef area are wonderful (well, not Cairns so much - but where it can lead you!) Very Happy

C'mon down! Even in winter, the weather is great (unless you live in Melbourne) (MsOlga doesn't frequent this thread!)

I have a four year old grandson who I want to see grow up bit by bit, rather than 4 today see you when you're 25.

Yes Margo it's too late.

Yes, Cairns (pronounced "cans") leads to many wonderful natural wonders including the Daintree rain forest and the Great Barrier Reef (we did the Quicksilver adventure). The aboriginal cultural center (Tjapukai), Kuranda Train, the skyrail, and Port Douglas are worth the trip up north. When we were in Sydney, we got the opportunity to visit the Olympic Centre before the games began. The swim center was really impressive, and they were letting the general public use the pools. Even bought a baseball cap with the Olympic insignia. Wink

Perhaps if you had made a different choice back then you wouldn't have the grandson you have today.

They say everything happens for a reason. I don't know if that is true or not, but I try my best not to have regrets by believing that a choice I wish I hadn't made was the best one for me at the time.

You can go for a visit...or perhaps you already have? Smile
