Just back from Vienna (in snow, but perhaps even more wonderful!!), I think, I saw something European ... like
"Sur le pont,... l'on y danse ...l'on y danse tout en rond..".
margo, "Hello!" Hello, margo, where are you? click, buzzz.....bo--ing.....<silence>.......click, "hello, hello!"
I'm here - and Walter has it -- although he hasn't told us yet - just sang to us.
Sur le pont d'Avignon, l'on y danse ...l'on y danse tout en rond..".
The bridge and the Palace of the Popes, Avignon, France
Go Walter (when he wakes up!)

"If" it should have been - we had had some really nice days in Vienna, but a "hard" (=getting up early) program as well.
Well, since I can't be online that much the next few days/hours, here's something very simple:
In the general forum Letty suggested that we "sign off" so that other members will know when someone wont be available for a day or more.
I think this would be a good idea for any game that requires questions to be asked and answered like this one.
For example, Walter is currently in the chair but says he wont be around for a few days which means no one else can play the game. Perhaps a fine tuning of the rules is called for.
Whaddya think?
It's not France and not Vienna - but c.i. is correct with the country (I said, it would be easy

)
As a clue: it's a "2** = Two-Star Attraction = must visit" in US-American travel guides": 'This masterpiece of Gothic and Baroque art and architecture is really worth visiting. ... "
Walter, I've been thinking about Viennese churches but nothing seems to match, It's not st. stephans is it?
No - but a kind of "thought-of-may-be" home for an emperor
No, not all, but for the Austrian emperors (therefor, it's an emperors crown on top of the "building", which you see right/top of the photo).
The most famous piece of art to seen in this place, however, has some connection to France (although when hearing it, the first thought usually would be some longlasting, gruesome battles in WWI).
No, not Salzburg.
Actually, it's in "Lower Austria", which is the state 'surrounding' Vienna.
And the 'building' hosts the biggest non-state library in Austria (as well as other more famous 'things').
Wow, so many clues Walter and we still haven't guessed! *L*
Well, French metallwork should be another good hint, and ...
...the Roman name for this place was "Asturis".
