What do you think are the toughest philosophical questions to answer? I'm not looking for your answers (that would be too much for one thread), but I'm looking for your specific questions. What philosophical questions do you find yourself unable to answer? Which ones, if any, do you think are impossible to answer?

A sentence or 2 about the question or your answer is ok, but remember, I'm just trying to poll for the toughest questions themselves.
Think my general question may appear to be (not aimed at you):

How do you fit that into reality (my good naive person)

Who? What? Where? When? Why?

Which of these do you think is hardest to answer? If you could only know the answers to four of them which one would you leave out?

@PappasNick,
Tough is relative to the belief people have.

Some are comfortable in pain.

So i am only saying toughest answer for a good question ,

Q: Do you exist?
A: You do not.

You may ask, "how can i do not know i do not exist?". Because your mind is clouded. And years of brain washing , conditioning and habits creates fear in you so that beliefs can live comfortably in your brain.

You all people understand , every life form , normal , virtual ...all have defense mechanism.

That is what you should observe other people and yourself.

How each one defend themself when attacked in various ways?. verbal , physical , abuse...

you can learn about yourself by observing every single word utter by everyone here.

It is all there for you to see.

@Deftil,
A mathematician would inquire "What?"

A scientist would inquire "How?"

And a philosopher would inquire "Why?"

@Diogenes phil,
Toughest question has toughest answer to accept.

if someone asked greatest question, it is WHY , it is mother of all questions.

No matter what , what, how and why all end up with a belief.

But why has most promising of all the questions to unmask your belief system.Smile

I think 'who' is also up to the philosopher. It is the business of philosophy to know who people really are, including oneself.

I take it you agree that 'who' also can end up with a belief - just like 'where' and 'when'.

Hmm. What do you suppose it was before? I know that a frog was a tadpole before it became a frog, though.

[CENTER]Mmmm. What was the thougest question the Sphinx could think of ? We do not know since she ate the ones with the wrong answer. Oedipus in his turn killed the Spinx so now we have no idea anymore.

Oscar Wilde, "The Sphinx Without a Secret":

Quote:
'My dear Gerald,' I answered, 'Lady Alroy was simply a woman with a mania for mystery. She took these rooms for the pleasure of going there with her veil down, and imagining she was a heroine. She had a passion for secrecy, but she herself was merely a Sphinx without a secret.'

How many philosophers are sphinxes without secrets?

OK. Next question:

For what purpose do we have emotions?

Emotions are our way of expressing ourselves. Without our emotions we would be pretty much be non-existant. Which would make this world a very bland place.Smile

I can appreciate what you mean. Do you think philosophers are given to take this question more seriously (i.e., it's more real for them) than others?

Others would jump to the conclusion that I'm some depressed person.
Philosophers would critically analyze the question.
