Here's my clue:

as he thought he would, while the first snows of winter fell."

Fahrenheit 451. I believe this is the last line in the movie, and the last line in some famous book (which?) that he has memorized.

Absolutely, positively correct. A young boy and an old man are both quoting from Robert Louis Stevenson's great, unfinished novel, The Weir of Hermiston.

Fahrenheit 451? Based on a Ray Bradbury novel, supposedly the temperature at which paper burns. In the future, firemen start fires instead of putting them out- they burn books, which have become illegal. A group of protesters continue literature by memorizing one or two books apiece. "Hello- I am 'Tale of Two Cities'". The movie is unusual in that there are no printed introductions or credits- someone speaks them.

Meaning no disrespect, but you're supposed to win one before you ask one, although, I suppose his failure to ask a question has created an undefined situation.

"You are not supposed to 'do your best'. You are supposed to win!"

This line is not from a sports film, by the way.

Thanks for indulging me.

Sorry, no disrespect intended. Have been away from computer longer than I intended.

My quote, which you may or may not play from as you choose:
This is obscure, but there is enough info here that if you've even heard of the movie you should get it:

[first person:] We...saw this shooting star and we decided to go look for it. But instead of finding the shooting star we saw this... this circus tent. And that's when we went inside, and that is when we saw those people in those... those pink, cotton candy cocoons. Dave, it was not a circus tent. It was something else.
[second person:]What? What?
[third person]: It was a space ship. And there was these things, these ****** ******, and they shot popcorn at us! We barely got away!
