@hawkeye10,
Quote:living is not a requirement, therefor those things are not automatic needs. To say that we need something is to say that the driver of us, the ego/soul, requires it. We are not our biological container.
Living is not a requirement? Being alive is most certainly a requirement for anything else a person wants to do. The need for food and water are primary drives. Almost all other "needs" are secondary, or learned.
I do believe that we are our "biological containers". I do not believe that people literally extend beyond the limits of their bodies.
An "ego" is a hypothetical construct in some theories of personality. A "soul" is a metaphysical/religious construct. People do not need notions of either an ego or a soul to function quite well. There is no innate need for a belief system.
The things people wind up wanting are shaped by learning and acculturation. They have nothing to do with needs, which are biological and common to all humans.
