Aquafine water softener - resin

We have a 22 year old Aqua2 Aquafine water softener which is not softening well. There is salt in the tank, no bridge is apparent, regen is happening and the hardiness settings have not been changed. It has been suggested that I need to replace the resin @ $350 CDN cost. Are there other checks that I can do first? Is replacing the resin something that is normal with a unit with this number of years of service?

Its a 22 year old softener. It owes you nothing.
Most likely it will need a lot more than just resin to get it back in to good shape.
Typically a new piston, seals and spacers, a brine valve and a new timer motor.
By the time you have done all that you are well in to the cost of a new softener.

Save your money and put it in to something new that uses less salt and water.
You will be much better off than trying to fix the old one that could have something else go wrong with it at any time.
