@ossobuco,
6.30pm. Just got in after watching the Olympic flame pass through the fair city of Southampton.

@izzythepush,
When do the games actually START, Izzy?

6.54 am. Having a last bit of rest before the preparations for today's open inspection of my abode begin in earnest.

@dlowan,
I think it's in about two weeks. My daughter took this picture.

@cicerone imposter,
Thanks, my little boy is really ito the idea of the Olympics. He even likes the appallingly bad logo and mascots. I did get the feeling this was something they could both talk about when they've got grandchildren.

It won't be coming back in anyone's lifetime.

@ossobuco,
Thank goodness he has (at least momentarily) pulled himself out of a recent slump! The Giants are filled with some exceptional pitchers. He used to be the best...hopefully, he can find some new pitches.

Enjoying our newly-installed downstairs air conditioner. The Lovely Bride
finally convinced me that the ceiling fans were no match for this summer's
heat wave.

@George,
My wife wanted ac many years ago, so we had one installed. We've had temps reaching in the mid-eighties, but we have not turned on our ac. Our ceiling has a fan that goes on automatically when it gets too hot, and a portable fan is enough to cool things off most of the time.

@cicerone imposter,
Is that mid-80s temps outside or inside?

I use my a/c when the interior temp is 80-81 deg and shuts off between 79 and 80. If I only used paddle fans (or any others) that moves the hot air around but doesn't take the humidity out. Of course the exterior temps is often 88-93 deg with dew points in excess of 72 deg (sticky). The tall palms here are pretty but there's little offered of shade to keep the sun off the building.

@Ragman,
Outside. Inside our house is usually much cooler, because we have a huge tree in front and back that shades our house most of the day.

@cicerone imposter,
A well placed tall bushy tree (or trees) over a living room can help out an a/c so much.

@Ragman,
It's somewhat analogous to a car sitting in the hot sun and one sitting in the shade of a tree. It makes a huge difference - especially when the outside temp is over 80 degrees F.

10:15am in sunny SF. I've fooled around long enough. I'm going to do my clean up thing, and get my workout. Yay, another summer day!

@Lash,
10:45AM: It's a little windy here in Silicon Valley, so I cut back our lemon tree in our back yard. I have to put them in the trash can now, but will take a short break before I finish the task.

@jcboy,
Looks like no thunder in today's storm. Just some sporadic light rain here!

Oops, St. Pete might be getting some (12- 1:30pm).

@cicerone imposter,
2;30 pm ET : I couldn't wait for you guys to arrive. I just made home-made pancakes. Added fresh blueberries and covered them with real maple syrup. All I can say is that it definitely didn't suck! I'll save some for you but they're not good cold.
