I recall one just called Quinten's Theme. Instrumental, and must have been from a movie or something with a name like that. Beautiful piece, anyway.

My mother used to sing this to me when I was a itty bitty girl.

Beautiful, beautiful brown eyes
Beautiful, beautiful brown eyes
Beautiful, beautiful brown eyes
I'll never love blue eyes again

Willie, I love you, my Darlin'
I love you with all my heart
Tomorrow we might have been married
But ramblin' has kept us apart

Beautiful, beautiful brown eyes
Beautiful, beautiful brown eyes
Beautiful, beautiful brown eyes
I'll never love blue eyes again

Down through the barroom he staggered
And fell down by the door
The very last words that he uttered
"I'll never see brown eyes no more"

Beautiful, beautiful brown eyes
Beautiful, beautiful brown eyes
Beautiful, beautiful brown eyes
I'll never love blue eyes again

John Lennon's Beautiful Boy (written for his son, Sean).

I also like Celine Dion's version of it; especially when paired with the captivating images from Anne Geddes.

JOHN LENNON lyrics - Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)

Close your eyes,
Have no fear,
The monsters gone,
He's on the run and your daddy's here,

Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,

Before you go to sleep,
Say a little prayer,
Every day in every way,
It's getting better and better,

Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,

Out on the ocean sailing away,
I can hardly wait,
To see you to come of age,
But I guess we'll both,
Just have to be patient,
Yes it's a long way to go,
But in the meantime,

Before you cross the street,
Take my hand,
Life is just what happens to you,
While your busy making other plans,

Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,
Darling,
Darling,
Darling Sean.

@Always Eleven to him,
Hey, thanks. I have it on LP, but my turntable crashed. I swear, my previous cat used to love it, and he wasn't into music at all.

That was very nice Diest - I really like the words. It reminded me that one of my old 'friends' in college used to sing me a lullabye that I'd never heard before and grew to really love - to the point that I remembered it and sang it to my kids when they were little.
I don't know how to tape me singing it and post it - but the melody is so beautiful and haunting that I wanted to put it here, in case someone wants to try to play it on the piano or guitar:

C C D Eflat D C D Eflat C
Bed is too small for my tir ed ness

C C D Eflat C Eflat C
Give me a hill topped with trees

C D Eflat C D Eflat D C
Tuck a cloud up un - der my head

G F# G Eflat C C
Lord, blow the moon out please.

(Repeat the same melody with the next verse)

Rock me to sleep in a cradle of leaves

Sing me a lullabye of dreams

Tuck a cloud up under my head

Lord, blow the moon out please.

The unfortunate reality is too many kids are born of crack whores who say things like "if you dont go to sleep you little bastard I'll put a bullet in your brain pan".

Hush, little baby, don't say a word.
Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird
And if that mockingbird won't sing,
Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring

And if that diamond ring turns brass,
Mama's gonna buy you a looking glass

And if that looking glass gets broke,
Mama's gonna buy you a billy goat

And if that billy goat won't pull,
Mama's gonna buy you a cart and bull

And if that cart and bull turn over,
Mama's going to buy you a dog named Rover.

And if that dog named Rover won't bark,
Mama's going to buy you a horse and cart.

And if that horse and cart fall down,
You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town.

@aidan,
All The Pretty Horses is indeed a lovely and intriguing lullaby. l like a lesser known song my mom used to sing as well - "My boat is so little, the ocean so wide..."

@DrewDad,
When my children were little we had an album called Lullaby Magic by Joanie Bartels with lovely versions of All the Pretty little Horses, Golden Slumbers, Winken Blinken and Nod etc. One of my favourites was Close your Eyes which I think was a James Taylor song. It's the only song my kids ever seemed to like me singing to them (I have an awful voice).
