FREEDOM ARRIVES IN ARIZONA!!!!!

Reply Fri 16 Apr, 2010 06:08 pm
ARIZONA BECOMES THE THIRD FREE STATE IN AMERICA!

Today, Republican Governor Janice Brewer of Arizona
signed a statute repealing Arizona's gun control laws,
(except that u still need to get a license
to carry concealed in a restaurant that serves alcohol).

Now u can carry concealed guns in Arizona WITHOUT A LICENSE,
the same as in Alaska and in Vermont!

Until now, in effect, those citizens who chose to wear
business suits had to get a LICENSE to do so,
unless willing relinquish their right to defend their lives
being unarmed, or to wear a Sam Browne belt
over their jackets, so that their guns woud show openly.
Now, thay are free.

George Washington and James Madison would be proud!

Were Washington and Madison paranoids?

@plainoldme,
They never outlawed guns, nor did they require a permit to own or carry one.

Thay were not. Being aware of a potential for danger
is different than being paranoid.

Is it your position that predatory violence
occurs only in paranoid delusions ?

Was Kitty Genovese delusionally murdered ?

Was Reginald Denny delusionally stomped on national TV ?

In Colonial times, it was against the law to go to Church in an unarmed condition, subject to a fine.

Yeah, but its so scorching HOT!

Soon, with the momentum picked up from McDonald v. Chicago in June, this will become a trend thru out the nation,
the same as CCW and Civil Immunity Castle Doctrine did and are doing

Because of the oppressive heat, I don't intend to resume
my citizenship of Arizona, but as an American citizen,
it brings me vicarious and empathic thrills of hedonic & libertarian JOY
from 1000s of miles away, to know of this freedom proliferating !

@OmSigDAVID,
Flagstaff, for example, does not have oppressive heat. It's not like AZ is one huge desert, just the southwest 1/3.

I 've never been there. Except for the freedom, I have no reason to go there.

I suspect that the same way that most of America, almost 40 of the 50 States
have thrown out gun control in favor of "shall issue" CCW licenses and Castle Doctrine,
so also will there be a great flooding momentum of the freedom now adopted and re-assumed by Arizona,
thru out most of America. Wyoming will probably be next (the repealer already passed its House of Representatives),
followed by Florida, Texas and Louisiana ?

How many 1000s of innocent people have been killed
because thay were helpless, defenseless, having obayed gun control laws ?

@OmSigDAVID,
Probably not in NY or Californicatia. The good news is that Californicatia will probably become part of Mexico in our lifetimes and be somebody else's problem.

@gungasnake,
I 'm looking for big momentum to develop in July from
McDonald v. Chicago in June. It 'll be very interesting what the USSC has to say.

I have a hunch that violent crime will drop in Arizona
as a result of the wiping out of gun control law.
That shoud add to the nationwide momentum to follow its example.

@OmSigDAVID,
I wouldn't set the bar that high. AZ already had some of the loosest gun control laws. While CCW needed a permit, people were allowed to open carry without one.

From the Arizona Citizens Defense League:

YOU did it! Today, April 16, 2010, Governor Brewer signed SB 1108,
the AzCDL-requested Constitutional Carry bill, into law.
Arizona now becomes the third state to not require written
permission from the government for law-abiding citizens to
exercise their right to bear arms discretely. Because Arizona is
the first state in the U.S. with a large urban population to take
this significant step, this is a watershed moment for the entire country.

AzCDL has been working towards this moment since we formed 5 years ago.
Constitutional Carry has always been one of our primary goals.
Every success over the last 5 years has been pursued with today's
historic occasion in mind. However, having a goal is meaningless
without the support and activism of over 3,000 committed
members. The citizens of Arizona, along with the citizens of
other states that follow in our footsteps, owe YOU, the members
of AzCDL, a debt of gratitude.

If you don't have a license, don't start carrying concealed just yet.
The law won't become effective until 90 days after "Sine Die"
when the Legislature officially adjourns. Since they are still working
through a slew of bills, we don't expect Sine Die anytime soon.
In past years, the effective date of bills has been around September.

CCW licenses still have a purpose. You'll need one to streamline
gun purchases, to carry in states that honor Arizona licenses and
for carrying concealed in establishments that serve alcohol and,
the training you receive to obtain a license is an added bonus.
Along with restoring your right to bear arms, SB 1108 added
additional training opportunities for obtaining a license.
NRA classes and training from places like Front Sight and Gunsite
will be able to qualify as license training.

If you decide not to obtain a CCW license, that doesn't mean you
shouldn't train. The heaviest thing about wearing a firearm is the
responsibility that comes with it. Take that money that you save
on license and renewal fees and spend it on quality training as
often as you can. Lead by example the world is watching.

For the record, AzCDL contacted the other major candidates for
Governor, Terry Goddard, Dean Martin, Buzz Mills, and John Munger,
about whether they would have signed SB 1108. At this point
Dean Martin, Buzz Mills, and John Munger have responded that
they support the bill and would have signed it. We are still
waiting to hear from Terry Goddard.

[All emphasis has been added by David.]

Open carry is not viable for citizens who
wear business suits, or even just sports jackets & slacks.
As a practical matter, no one is going to wear a Sam Browne belt
over his jacket to keep his revolver legally on display.

This is what the USSC has called (qua the 1st Amendment) a "chilling effect";
i.e., the citizen will just take his chances, in order to look nice, fashion-wise,
the same way that a drunken driver takes his chances of getting home OK.

Accordingly, I feel confident that more citizens will carry concealed
and this will contribute to a significant drop in violent crime.

Let 's watch and see !

Practicality wise, this may not make much difference in the long run. Government and many other businesses prohibt firearms on their property. It will be interesting to see the number of court cases involving car accidents and guns. The potential for hot heads carrying around a gun. Have you ever seen the statistics for heat related arguments? No kidding here really. Most of the population of AZ in the lower half of the state and can have summer temperatures starting as early as April and ending as late as September. We are not just talking 80 degrees (F) here. We are talking from 95-110 for five months out of the year. Alcohol is deadly when mixed with dehydrated Arizonians. We don't need guns to be more prevlently carried. We need them to be more responsibly carried IMHO.

OK, Practicality wise: open carry has ALREADY been legal since forever,
and its not likely that freedom to legally carry concealed will get the historic temperature any hotter!
If I were a criminal in Arizona, I 'd make plans to migrate to California!
Enjoy your new legal freedom in very good health !
