Trust me, I see enough old, scared, white guys in my personal life and on the news. I don't need more of 'em in my escapism.
I don't hate old, scared, white guys. I just don't believe they add anything compelling to a narrative, especially as a recurring character. They're not hate-worthy; they're just boring and a dime a dozen.
