If so, who would be your dream casting?

Abed would veto the idea. Inspector Minerva was a disaster, after all.

Hopefully they learned their lesson from the Jody Whittaker Debacle. It was a unquestionable failure. The ratings steadily sank each of the three years and the BBC is now giving up creative control of the franchise.

The problem was instead of having a Doctor Who that happened to be a woman, they made the entire story into a gimmick to score points with who they thought were their audience. The political narrative became more important than the story and the story suffered. After a while even the politically correct fans got bored with being lectured at.

I don't think most of us care about whether the next Doctor Who is a woman. We just want a return to a well-crafted series that cares about story-telling and respects its audience.

Please! No more gimmicks!

James Acaster will be going for both Bond and Who.

The only person who could do both.

That would make for a weird shared cinematic universe if those two franchises chose to combine. Think about Davros as a Bond villain. It kind of makes sense.

@tsarstepan,
It was said in a light hearted way on The Big Fat Quiz Of The Year.

James Acaster is a very funny comedian, I couldn't see him doing either role unless it was a spoof for comic relief.

They will cast a man in both roles, I can't see them casting another female Dr Who for a bit. There will be another, but the next two will be male.

I'm just wondering how it will be announced, but there'll be some sort of accompanying fanfare regardless.

@tsarstepan,
The Patrick Troughton story Enemy of the World has Troughton playing the role of a Bond Type villain as well as the doctor.

It's set about now, but so very different.

Still no word on the next Doctor but plenty of rumours.

However, there is word on when Jodie Whitaker's last episode will air.

The trailer is already out and will feature three adversaries, the Daleks Cybermen and the Master.

Also featured are past companions, Tenant from Tom Baker's 4th Doctor and Ace from Sylvester McCoy's 7th Doctor.

No firm date as yet, but the BBC has said it will feature as part of the Centenary celebrations later this year.

The official date of when the BBC will be 100 years old is Tuesday 18th October. So logically it should be in that week.

Very good bowing out by Jodie Whittaker, twist at the end.

It just kept getting worse and worse with no way out at all, but ..... well no spoilers.

The only disappointment was a shot of Bonnie twatting Langford at the end.

She was awful in Just William, terrible when constantly on Russell Harty, and since then gone into a decline, she should never have been let near Dr Who.
