How good are New Zealand colleges? (Compared to American?)

I'm a junior in high school, and I've really fallen in love with New Zealand. However, when I tried to research their colleges I couldn't get much information. For example, if I came back to the US, would a bachelor's from an NZ college be looked down upon? Are their programs better or worse than a good public US school, like UVA? In short, is it worth it?
