But kindly lets not forget Robert is the facilitator, and a very good one at that. Where the rubber meets the road what makes a2k great is the membership.

What does it mean that you are the facilitator? Do you run A2K? Funny, I just sent off a comment to msolga that I have been on another forum, which I might leave.

First of all, I dislike the way it is set up, both in terms of organization and in terms of the software that supports it. Contributors have to join groups. So people who like, say folk music, have several choices -- folk music, acoustic music, traditional music - - while foodies might select from casseroles, quick suppers, French food, etc. While it sounds good in purpose, in reality, almost nothing is posted in many groups for weeks on end. What good is a group without activity? Secondly, the software prevents long discussions. Returning to a2k after a long hiatus, I find that I like the fact that some of the discussions here are a old as the forum itself, like littlek's What Book Are You Reading Now Thread?

I joined several groups that I thought would be fun, from acoustic music to non-fiction books to archaeology. The first was run by a musician who seems to be a real sweetie pie but one man can not make a discussion. Nothing seemed to happen on the book discussion thread and the archaeology thread was an embarrassment.

The political threads are hot but mixing liberals and conservatives there is even more volatile than it is here . . . if you can believe that.

The thing that I like best about that forum is that I crossed paths with someone I went to HS with. While we weren't particularly close, we did talk together a great deal senior year because we sat next to each other in choral practice. As it turns out, we are both liberals of the same stripe and have had lives with ups and downs and both of us are tottering on the edge of real poverty. She has lost several jobs because of serious health issues: her employers simply do not want to cover her and so she was fired. Too bad, because she is a smart woman with a lot to offer in terms of communications skills, savvy, common sense and the ability to keep nasty people in line.

Peasant ? What do you mean peasant ?

I know what a member is....it is slang for a male sex organ. I know what a ship is...it is fancy-speak for a boat. What the hell is a member ship ? Can peasants ride a member's ship ? Will someone explain what the hell is going on so I can join in and get called idiotic ?

@djjd62,
And I wouldn't mind some pleasant music, while you're busy doing decent things on the board, djjd.

Thanks in advance! Smile

@msolga,
If he's taking requests as well.... What about having lunch and dinner delivered to every participating member of the site whenever they get the urge to partake in that timely meal in which they are missing out on when the member is toiling away at a2k?

And no McDonalds or KFC please. Thanks in advance. Very Happy

I just read where you are taking requests..I will have a foot massage, my first holiday in 13 years, and someone to take care of my two boys for a week. Thats it.

Oh! Oh! Oh! Wait ! And a new car. Thank you.

Wait ! wait ! And a girlfriend, like one of those flashy new ones you see on telly. Thank you.

Oh! Wait! And a maid so you dont have to bother me anymore asking what I want. Thank you.

@edgarblythe,
Would an XB0x 360 for every active member be too greedy a request?

Certainly not! That is perfectly reasonable. We shall apply the same principles of politicians voting themselves a pay rise : if it feels good, do it !
