@Sglass,
So the surgery was scheduled for today but didn't happen? (Sorry if you explained elsewhere and I missed it. )

@sozobe,
I could smack Andy for starting this thread.

I have had a medical screw up situation that is not to be believed. I had a Doc that put me on bp meds that screwed up my heart and I have been working with a heart specialist. I should have had this surgery six months ago for a standard female "plumbing problem" which has worsened. Today 's tests are preliminary pre-surgical procedures.

I will be filing a medical malpractice suit against the original incompetent.

I miss my Harvard doctors.

@Sglass,
Have your concerns with your COPD and surgery risks been relieved?

@Sglass,
Sglass, is there any chance you can talk with one of those Harvard doctors and get a referral re the islands, or perhaps in SF (thinking UCSF or UCLA med centers)? Any chance you can be seen on the mainland? I figure that would be a time and money constraint, but just asking.

When I moved to new mexico, my bc surgeon (on staff at Stanford even though she and I lived and worked in Podunk) got me a list of names to see here. I didn't see any of those for insurance-bare reasons (a few months before I'd get medicare) and got hooked in, instead, at the University of New Mexico hospital clinics. I thought the guy at one clinic was incompetent (read the chart wrong) or, to put it more understandingly, was rushed. On the other hand, I'm wildly happy with the two surgeons I've dealt with at the UNM eye clinic, and I'm a medically spoiled person, as you intimate you are from Boston physicians.

Hang in there, kid, as Roberta and CJane would say.

Smile

I'm very relieved that things aren't quite as serious as they seemed yesterday, Seaglass. Phew.

And very sorry to hear about your medical screw up & the problems that have followed.

I hope all goes well with your pre-surgical procedures today.

That's cool Heeven.

I am just very annoyed with the practice of medicine in Hawaii.
Hopefully I will get full clearance for surgery this week.

Damn not enough Harvard doctors over here. You get spoiled living in Boston.
If its not a 911, u coud fly back or take a nice lavish, luxurious, slow boat back, in both directions.

I'll have you both in my thoughts this week as you maneuver through the system.

I'm a pretty good ommer and will keep that going as well. Keep your chins up.

I do surgery and I am cheap too ! I even assisted in the birth of kittens when I was 8 so I really know my anatomy. I have some gloves that came free with a toilet brush. All you have to do is pay for my airfare....and expenses.

@Sglass,
Better check time limitations on filing. Most lawsuits have the civil equalilent of a statute of limitations. If your time has run out, there is probably not much to be gained by retaining a lawyer - unless they do free consultations.

I've been away from A2K for about a week or so...just catching up.

Hope you find a doctor who can cut through all the red tape and get you the help you need as soon as possible. Prayers, good thoughts & ommmmms headed your way from here...

@Sglass,
I am quite spoiled. Had a medical thingie in recent months myself and was surprised by the speed I was taken care of. That being said, my PCP made an error and tripled the prescription of Plavix prior to surgery. Had I not double-checked with my surgeon, I would have bled out on the table. While I respect doctors and surgeons and all medical personnel, I want to know everything and I do mean everything about my condition, treatments, side effects, etc., etc., and even then it's all up in the air because we are all so very different in our reactions to surgery, pain meds, etc.

I have my fingers crossed for you that all goes well. Remember we are rarely given more than we can handle. While it scares the **** out of me, I do understand that I am given health scares so I will pay attention. Of course if someone screws up with my care, I will have their heads! But then that is just because I am a sweet angelic thing - just like you!

That 's a great idea! I never thought of that, knowing nothing of pharmacology.
HOW did u double-check??
HOW did u discover the error?
