where do you find avatar urs (to copy and paste)? I've been working on trying to figure this out for about half an hour and am not getting anywhere so I figured I'd ask.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me with this.

@aidan,
Put "Avatar to copy" in Google, and you'll find plenty. Good luck.

@aidan,
Or, knowing your fantastic (not to flatter, just because it is) photography, you could download a photo of your own to a site like imageshack, photobucket, or many others, put it on your desktop, and then unload it to gravatar.com
You can put several photos on that, and choose one to be selected.
Given you sign up to gravatar with your email address used on a2k, the selected photo will be put in avatar sizing (you can crop) be transferred onto a2k as avatar within a day or two, probably sooner. Sometimes it takes a while, and that is usually because you should clear your cache...

(I just did this - see the new Pacco pic?)

@aidan,

once you find an image you want to use as your avatar, save it to you computer.
you can then load it into your A2k profile with gravatar.

if you don't already have an account go to
http://en.gravatar.com/site/signup/

gravatar accepts the following image types:
gif, jpg, jpeg, png

@aidan,
Well, I thank all of you for helping me to figure out how to do an avatar for myself -and for your compliment about my photography Osso - and actually your comments did spark me to think about that, but the reason I wanted to know how to copy and paste avatars is because I want to do something on the asian carp thread.

And I tried and tried for forty-five minutes last night to find the urls for two specific avatars. I clicked directly on them, tried to highlight them and copy - but everytime I pressed preview I got that little box with the red x in it.

So if I wanted to copy Dutchy's avatar - what do I do?

I went to his profile page, clicked on his avatar and copied the url at the top of the screen but that doesn't work. Where do I go and what do I click on to get that little copied avatar that Rob described getting on the asian carp thread? If you can help me with this, I'd also appreciate it.

Thank you.

Well, I think this is what you mean:
http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/9ccfb48bc6cfd8e000eb0b4a455d8743?r=R&d=identicon&s=60
http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/e2aeff4c2b1ac764d452af9751b8dbaf?r=R&d=identicon&s=60
http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/4c180b1fac19a7494c008a85a2b3f6c7?r=R&d=identicon&s=60
http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/1001e4e34e91879b31f49c4e66da67bc?r=R&d=identicon&s=60

So:

1 - Right click on the member's avatar, on one of his posts.
2 - Click "properties"
3 - Copy Adress (URL)
4 - Past it on "reply"
5 - Select it.
6 - Click on the upper button "[img]
7 - Preview

The avatar should be there..

@Francis,
Thanks Francis - that's exactly what I meant. I was missing the 'click on the properties' step.

@aidan,
If I may, Aidan, I'd make a small adjustment in order to have the name above the avatar, which makes your purpose more readable:

@Francis,
Too late now, but I'll remember it for next time - when I've studied your acronyms enough to come up with one imitating you. Laughing
