@ehBeth,
as the ladies who have ventured to the prairie to visit with me will attest, if I had to make my living by removing my clothes for tips, Ida been dead a long time ago...

not that I'm setting record profit numbers working on junky old rusted volks-hoppers, mind you.

@Rockhead,
souped-up trikes for rich city folk ... that's the answer!

@ehBeth,
I'm building a beetle powered trike this winter.

hoping to raise some cash from it. bug trikes are kinda popular around here, but most of the existing ones are not very well engineered.

Once I get it built and start driving it, it will sell itself.

I could build bicycle trikes, though, if orders happened to come in...

it's kinda cool just to have a shop setup so's I can fabricate whatever I dream up. or walks in broken.

it's been a long time coming back around to melding metal to support myself.

I had a similar shop less than 15 miles from where I am now, but 25 years ago. (I damn sure wish I had the tools I had back then)

strange quarter century of fate and diversions to be back where I started.

with a few more skills and a lot more stories, of course...

(and less a wife)

@Rockhead,

@ehBeth,
mine is actually starting with a type 3 butt section, but when it's done, no one will know what the donor was. unless they are volks savvy, of course...

lotsa parts, not enough time to stop and play much.

I'm kinda enjoying playing with paint and plastic again. I've not been a body guy for a long time. now that I took the tool buying plunge, I need a few more to make it work.

gonna get schooled in convertible tops before the snow sets in...

I've finally settled on a spot for the wood stove in the shop.

now I gotta go buy the stuff to seal it up when I cut a hole in the roof.

gonna walk smoky through it tomorrow, so I don't have to hear about how I did it wrong until one of us dies...

bubba will have a bed next to it.

she has been voted off the island permanently. and I really enjoy having her outside with me when I do stuff. (most of the time. she can still be annoying as a fire ant)

I feel so damn good not worrying about getting the rest of the fishes out. mr vw is a saint.

and he brought my carvings out to me. 3 wolves. actually more, cuz only two are solo. mebbe pix soon.

very special to me.

and his mom's old carving tool box and books...

Ima go scrape some more paint whilst I wait for the ruggers to start.

almost no sign of crusty red now.

it was red. over black over yellow over white. with a black top.

headed for dark red. with a camel top.

off to go sniff noxious chemicals with bubba. she's a terrible influence...

<EDIT>

police chase. gotta go see who it is. got the sherriff involved.

I feel like a cow.

moo.

dunno. they never came back this way...

got some more cleaning done in the shop whilst I waited for goop to set up.

it's firkin huge. when I get all the rest of the junk out, and the shelving organized, Ima have a ton of space to play.

this is good, cuz as the plants come inside, the cabin keeps getting smaller and smaller.

but with a very living homey feel to it.

at this time last year, I was hurriedly laying bricks to make a hearth.

seems a long long time ago.

and Bob was helping me every day to overcome the hurdles of homelessness..

he'd be happy for me now, I know it...

off to shut down for the night.

think Ima make some scrambled eggers for the rugby match.

tummy is wack from tossing my schedule around so much.

oh well...

@ehBeth,

I'm eating cracker jack. haven't had one since I was a kid. (sticks im my teef)

but it's tasty. and I get a prize.

mr vw brought over a bunch of food that his sister left at his house. kept a bunch more that he knew I couldn't eat. we hadda read the fine print on the jacks...

and he has a new respect for my approach to crohns, after spending 2 weeks with his sis.

what a mess in Las Vegas...

RIP Dan Wheldon, 2 time indy 500 winner.

http://news.yahoo.com/indy-500-winner-wheldon-dies-massive-wreck-225619226.html

"I'll tell you, I've never seen anything like it," Ryan Briscoe said. "The debris we all had to drive through the lap later, it looked like a war scene from Terminator or something. I mean, there were just pieces of metal and car on fire in the middle of the track with no car attached to it and just debris everywhere. So it was scary, and your first thoughts are hoping that no one is hurt because there's just stuff everywhere. Crazy."

@Endymion,
Isn't the odd spectacular smash the whole point of such activities.

I nominate Mr Wheldon for the 2011 Darwin Award.

I make an effort to avoid being caught milking the udder of human kindness and concern because it is too easy and also because there are so many people at it that it is as common as common gets. It's getting to be on a par with shitting.
