So.... the weather here today is supposed to be brutally hot - potentially the hottest day in years. But to make us feel better the weather dude said it could be worse - we could be in Wichita.

Sorry.

@Rockhead,
Oh no! All that hard work in the gardens. Did the pond critters survive?

Hope your roof held up so you won't have to be up there doing more repairs in the winter.

Let us know if you need anything, Rocky - I've got lots of leftover veggie seeds I can mail to you if you think there's still time in the season to give the garden another start.

@Rockhead,
Everything, everything? As in dwellings/roofs, vehicles and gardens?

So sorry to hear this.

You may be surprised about what survives in the gardens. If the roots aren't damaged they may recover. I hope so.

@JPB,
Been putting plywood over broken windows. 1 on my house, 1 in the shop, and 2 on smoky's porch thingy...

no broken car windows. the right side of smoky's car resembles a golf ball. (he has full coverage)

my electrician's truck was under the trees, and is not terrible. a coupla big hits. mine was hammered, and the windows were down, or I woulda lost a side glass. there was a baseball size stone in the cab. I had already crashed the front of it into an SUV, it doesn't matter, as long as it still goes.

garden is a total loss. mostly under water right now, not a whole leaf in sight...

@edgarblythe,
the sky is still and green right now.

we are right on the northern edge of a really ugly pair of converging storms.

we were ripe for it, 7 straight days of 100 degree temps, with a baby rain tossed in last night...

@JPB,
called and checked on gram.

her crawlspace is flooded...

dark now. storm has moved on toward Emporia.

the sound of baseballs hitting the tin roof of the shop at 100+ mph was deafening. and when they hit the big pools and puddles in the drive, the splash was nearly 20 feet tall. we won't forget this one for a while...

@Rockhead,
How do things look this morning? puddles drained?

Could you maybe ask for a reprieve on the whole weather thing?

yesterday even started weird...

"Readings surged 17 degrees in 20 minutes — from 85 at 12:22 a.m. to 102 at 12:42 a.m.

It's almost certainly the first time the temperature has soared into triple digits after midnight in Wichita, weather officials said.

The spike was the result of a heat burst, which occurs when dry air plummets to the Earth's surface as a thunderstorm collapses, meteorologists said. As the air nears the ground, it heats dramatically."
