@Rockhead,
Someone needs to pay you for all the clean up work you've done. Make sure your lawyer puts that into any negotiations that won't result in you owning the house.

I'm hoping (speculating) that the hold up may be a matter of the owners (heirs) not having clear title. That often happens here in the mountains of Virginia. Usually that can be quickly cleaned up...as long as some jackass cousin-in-law doesn't suddenly appear.
I suspect that the city wants to see this property be re-habed. They will be involved in making that happen.
I, like everyone here, am holding my breath.

are you familiar with a city run "class" that homeowners can take to then legally do all of their own construction work without a contractor?

No.

had a long discussion this evening about sociopathic people. folks with no empathy was the focus...

so I thought this an appropriate time to post here.

in the wake of that poor canadian dude with no friends...

I think.

think...

that I will be wintering on the longhorn ranch just up the road from the casino.

we had a very good introductory meeting, followed by them suggesting where my camper might best be situated and how to expand the chicken house...

it is verra peaceful and serene there.

I think it would be good for my soul.

even if wintering in a camper is not what I was envisioning.

and I may have a line on another house within my budget...

@Rockhead,
Is the old new house completely out of the picture, then?

@Ticomaya,
not yet.

but as I told my attorney when he told me not to lose hope...

hope is for people that can afford to fail. he can hope for me while I work on a viable back-up plan.

I actually have two plan Bs now.

going tomorrow to look at a house in a little country town 20 miles from Wichita but NE instead of NW like I am now.

nice little old two story on an acre lot. across from a hundred+ year old church...

@JTT,

@ehBeth,
I should be out working on the vert.

but I feel lousy...

by the same reasoning, I'm not gonna hang around here and compete with sociopaths. think I'll watch a movie.

damn...

got a phone call (not going to look at that house, but it will be sold for taxes soon) and went out to open up the shop while I was walking and talking.

reached to unlock the big door, and got hit by what I think was a wasp.

gonna kinda keep an eye on it, it's been a long time since I was stung, my body is not nearly as superhuman as it used to be.

Ima try and work a little tonight, even if I just get everything set up so tomorrow is productive...

pretty day here. very fall...

been out in the shop working mostly. watching the royals between coats of plastic. almost done reworking the tail.

gonna take a break and go to town. need food.

adjusting to the no gas thing. gonna buy some more socks and boxers so I can go longer in between wash cycles.

and I need to find my hotplate outta the old trailer so I can at least make soup or a can of veggies...

I hope to be spraying color this week.

@ehBeth,
saw that.

hope he continues to recover quickly. he's a tough little bugger...

having beer and chicken. not the red sock way, mine's roasted and gluten free.

after I eat I hafta go out and lay one more coat of plastic.

I'm getting close to being ready for color.

got my last fender mount nut welded in today. had to fish it down to the hole with a wire, and then spot it in and remove the wire again. went very smoothly all things considered.

a little more work down low on the heater channel and the body is done.

then all I have to do is finish the surgery on the hood.

gonna be a hellish week however I slice it...

still going to go get the overhead garage door this week from up by the lake. even if I don't get the house, it is too good a deal to pass up.

almost hit a deer tonight coming home in the truck.

woulda been ugly, I have about 600 extra pounds of garage doors strapped to a rack I built and the cab of the truck. (one of them is a seventeen footer)

fortunately he looked at me and kept nonchalantly walking across the road. a large buck with a very nice rack...
