Off hand I would bet if this website had 100,000 members plus then only one percent or so take part by posting anything and an even smaller sub-set of those posters do most of the postings here. Hell it could be as low as .1 percent for that group.

Ok sysops would you care to share any statistics on this subject you might keep on the subject with the rest of us?

@BillRM,
You need to remember that there are entire communities here that thrive within just a few threads.

Lenny Conundrums - one thread

Neverending rap battle - one thread

Word games - 15 or so threads

Lovatts/Crosswords - Frequent new threads, but isolated.

Water softener questions - just a few threads.

Now we have Droods. (Droid dudes)

Some people make things happen
Some watch things happen.
Others wonder what the hell happened.

There are many one-off posters who register, ask a question, possibly get an
answer, and are never heard from again.

And then there's Ivan: one man, many memberships.

@djjd62,
Given the typical opacity of Bill's post, this is by far the best response. Kudos to DD, though, for the Tautology club cartoon.

@George,
I love to fantasize that Ivan is an FSB employee who is pulling down a great salary for doing absolutely no good at spreading disinformation.

@BillRM,
I can't find the thread right now, but I remember asking questions like this a few years ago. Timberlandko's answers, as best I remember, were that about half the registered usernames never post anything. Of the remaining half, half submitted one post or more. Timber also gave the number of users with more than 10, 100, 1000, and 10,000 posts respectively. I believe about 80 posters had submitted more than 1000 posts at that time. Of course, these numbers are long-obsolete.

One figure that always interested me is what I call the size of A2K's core, C. If you list all A2K users, sorted by the number of posts they've written, the first C members on the list would have written half the total number of posts on A2K. I don't think I've seen a value for C yet, but I'd like to. (It's a nerd thing.) My wild, highly unscientific guess is that C would be around 500, give or take a factor of two.

@Thomas,
I would put C at roughly 1/3 that value. At one time, the membership list was open, and could be arranged by number of posts. I very vaguely recall that members with multiple posts occupied perhaps the first three pages at a time when we had around 20,000 members.

Actually, that is an impression of a vague memory.

@Thomas,
He didn't -- I probably did (he didn't keep the stats).

I don't keep the stats any more but I suspect the proportions continue as before.

@jespah,
I see.

On a slight tangent, what's the benefit to A2K of having thousands of members who don't post anything -- that they click on the ads here?
