No delivery charge here in New York City unless they say so up front.
None , that would be NONE, of the restaurants around here charge a delivery fee. Not 107 (American food), not Don Richardo's, not Fresh Tortillas, not the Indian Palace. Nobody adds any delivery fee.

Joe(regular tip is two bucks for a regular delivery, five bucks for a big one.)Nation

@tsarstepan,
Just that one - I've never encountered it before... and I have to go now to answer Chai's cheeky responses. She's like a delivery charge herself, if you know what I mean. Gotta nip that in the bud.

@ehBeth,
Well see, the ad says "Free Delivery within X km", so I was surprised at the delivery charge. I realize I should have said that earlier. I've just never encountered the Delivery Charge. Like why would they charge? I used to deliver pizzas (in college) and there was never a delivery charge.

Just asking.

I'm just curious. Do other restaurants in your area charge a delivery fee?

@chai2,
Chai, I quite agree with you about flip top cans, but even more so, how about wine bottles? Why not have a flip top there? I know you don't imbibe anymore but the rest of us that do would really appreciate not having to bring along a corkscrew in our purse, or, worse yet, our jacket pocket. Or even worser yet, a screwdriver.

All in all, if all you have to complain to Canada about is the lack of flip-tops, I'd say you're sitting pretty.

Instead of me coming down there to see you, come up HERE to see us, girl.

@dadpad,
I would certainly melt, and most likely from mumpad's evil eye. I like the way they do things there.... and ringpulls are flip tops, yes.

Yep - no delivery charges on food from most restaurants here.

In addition, from my favourite Thai restaurant I get a 10% discount as a preferred customer.

Tipping? What's that - and why would you - that's what they're paid to do. (At least here they earn a living wage!)

Italian wedding soup is very good . . . i have no opinion on whether or not one should have to use a can opener to get at it, though . . .

@Mame,
Was this from a delivery service? Like one that delivers from several different restaurants? If so, this is the charge for this service and no it does not represent a tip. I've also seen some restaurants/take out places that will charge a small delivery service - usually it is for smaller orders for example, for charges less than $10, we add $3 delivery charge. $8 seems steep so I am guessing this is a delivery company, rather than the restaurant itself.

@chai2,
I think because cats love tuna so much, they've learned how to open the flip tops themselves. Can't answer why they don't for the human tuna - maybe because the cats would open and eat those as well.

@Linkat,
It was not a delivery service; it was the restaurant's charge.

I also don't like it when restaurants set the gratuity. I won't go to them. I don't mind them setting their menu prices, of course, but you're not going to tell me what to tip. Some servers become sloppy or inattentive when there's a built-in tip.

What's Mad Dog 20/20?

In my neck of the woods the automatic tip is usually reserved for parties of eight or more. Problem is, before some of us caught on, we were tipping again, when the tip was already included. Well, ya live and learn.

Also, I noticed that the automatic tip was usually lower than what I normally give, so in some sense, with me, the server got screwed.

You must be exceptional, Phoenix. It is considered axiomatic in the restaurant business that women diners are like good canoes--they don't tip.
