Quote:
Columbia has scrapped "Spider-Man 4" and is rebooting its Spider-Man film franchise.

The studio is parting ways with director Sam Raimi and "Spider-Man" stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst and is taking the webslinger's alter ego, Peter Parker, back to high school.

I sure don't like the sound of this.

@maporsche,
Depends on how they pull it off. Smallville was a good reimagining of the Superman series, so there's some support for the idea that you can do this type of thing successfully.

@djjd62,
I'm not a big fan of the Ultimate line of comics; although I understand that they are huge sellers, so I'm in the minority.

I haven't kept up with these sorts of things--would that be the existential angst line of comics?

@Setanta,
not really, some are a little darker than the previous incarnations, there just a reworking of the mythos, most comics just kind of went along year after year with separate story lines each issue, in the late 60's early 70's some sort of continuity started, but in 30 or 40 years things got messy and complicated,so they tried a reboot to clean up the story lines

Spiderman #1 and #2 were good, but #3 was a big step down, so maybe a reboot is a good thing.

With great revenues come great restrictions.

@rosborne979,
I like it ros.

Yeah, 3 could have been much better. I enjoyed it better than most movies though.

I really like TM and KD as SM and MJ. In the comics, I like Spider-man as an mid-20's early 30's dude; dealing with sort of real life problems. I don't think I'll enjoy him going back to high school. I was looking forward to him getting a little older.

@maporsche,
The updated version of the franchise reboot:

Andrew Garfield is a great actor. 2010 was a breakout year for the actor:
The Social Network and Never Let Me Go.

Plus he stole the entire Terry Gilliam film of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

@Irishk,
Based on the actor, Andrew Garfield, and the few still shots, it does look promising.
