OK here's the story...I used to love to swim. Even did swimming competitions. I had an accident since then and have lost alot of the ability. I have a passing out problem too due to a health issue, but it's medicine controlled. Because of this my fiancee is BIG into making me wear a lifejacket when we kayak or whenever I swim alone. He recently got me a really nice one. It fits my weight requirements and everything. The only annoying part is it came with a understrap. (goes between your legs, seen on kiddie jackets) Do I have to wear it? Can I remove it? Other adult jackets don't have them....Im a small adult, but can I remove it and still be safe? Thanks!
Depends on where you are swimming or kayaking.
If you are on an inland lake, you could probably remove the crotch strap, but if you are in rapids or fast moving water, then keep it on.
Kayaks are tippy, so it's better to be safe than sorry.

In any case, life jackets are only needed when you are drowning.
