@Stradee,
Stradee, you're right......... People don't pay attention to some things. For instance - during his first three MONTHS in office way back in 2001 - G. W. Bush REMOVED all oversight from business, and, removed almost all EPA directions. The offshore rigs were supposed to pay the states a certain amount of money to operate -- they didn't - even after the states complained to the White House.

@danon5,
There hasn't been any sort of cognizant oversite for oil or mining companies ever. They manage to bypass the clean air/water acts, and enviornmental studies. Then came the law suits, and leases that were granted were pulled because of the above mentioned issues, that shouldn't be issues at all! Thank God for sensible Federal Judges!

On more positive notes, HS inquiring if you've received her package yet? Smile

Plus, our Beth is having a Birthday tomorrow! wuuhuu

Sierra weather nice again today...filled 10 leaf bags...everything going well. Then sat to read, and heard terrible commotion outside the door. Bootsie (who has regained much of her sight) was napping on the porch stairs, when the Shepherd across the street decided to pay the cats a visit. Not good...the dog does not like cats. He charged the steps at Boots who immediately bolted through the top hedges, sailed across the Rosemary hedges, and was across the road in about a split second, burrowing underneath a neighbors deck. The Shepherd was caught by his owner (who was very apologetic) and all i could say was "F^#+*"!!!!!!!!!! Just a weeks ago, Amanda was sunning on the driveway and here came the growling Shepherd but stopped dead in his tracks when he saw me sitting on the retaining wall close to Amanda. I said quietly "Go Home, bud", and he did. Didn't catch him today though. Retrived poor Bootsie, gave her lots of TLC, checked for injuries, and she's fine, just scared. Now I know where her eye trauma derived from. damn

These are freindly and well behaved dogs, but when they break from home...

So the day had its ups and downs, but all ended well. Thank God

@danon5,
Here's something interesting picked up by Steve Quinny at FB

http://www.newsvine.com/_vine/images/users/nws/JimGold/4531091.jpg

Actor Kevin Costner, left, founding partner of Ocean Therapy Solutions and BP CEO of Operations Doug Suttles, center, talk before boarding the barge holding Ocean Therapy's centrifuge machine designed to separate oil and water in Port Fourchon, La., Friday.

Hollywood star Kevin Costner debuted Friday in his supporting role as a Gulf oil-spill fighter.

News agencies reported on the actor's premiere staged at the docks in the oil industry supply port of Port Fourchon in southern Louisiana as BP began deploying 32 of his "dream" machines to separate oil from water. Costner's backdrop was an oil-finding barge with his machines mounted on the deck.

"At its core, my dream, this machine, was designed ... to give us a fighting chance to fight back the oil that's got us by the throat," Costner told reporters.

"When you are in a fight, anybody knows you go to confront it right where it is. You don't wait for it to come to your door," the actor said.

Costner's company, Ocean Therapy Solutions, signed a contract with BP to provide 32 units expected to work in the next 60 days.

BP Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles would not disclose financial details.

Costner said each machine, called a V20, can separate 210,000 gallons of oily water a day.

Costner, best-known for such films as "Dances with Wolves" and "Waterworld," stressed he was no overnight oil spill sensation. He has been trying to employ the technology designed by his company for the past 17 years, and has invested more than $20 million of his own money in its development.

The technology was developed two decades ago by a researcher at the Idaho National Laboratory by scientist David Meikrantz, who initially sought to use the machines to separate the components of nuclear substances.

In 1993, INL licensed the technology to Ocean Therapy Solutions, a company owned by Costner

@Stradee,
Yes, I saw a Nat'l News segment about the separator - interesting and I hope it works.

There are separators all around the oil well country. As a kid in High School I used to drive my 50 Chevy out to the remotely sited separators and fill the auto with 'casin head'. That's the straight raw gas we took right from the separator in the field. It being raw out of the ground would have some trash in it but we poured it through strainers and cloth rags to clean it up before puting it in the car. Then had to be careful to not step on the gas pedal too hard because it would rattle the valves and 'ping' a lot. I poured some paint thinner (toluene) in with it to slow down the explosions in the chambers - that stopped the pinging. Thats all the gas companies do - they call it the octane rating. All that means is the gas burns more slowly the higher the rating.

@danon5,
I clicked early this morning, signed 6 environmental petitions and 14 clicks
from the Rain Forest to Big Cats at Care2.com. What a great site! I keep one
window open now, to remind me to log in, click and as the song goes, "Don't
worry, Be Happy"!

With all of the disasters taking place in the Gulf and around the world, it behooves me to care more for a lady called Mother Earth! May a saved
tree, shade you all!

@danon5,
Good morning all ~

Hi Teeny and Alex!

Weathers cooled a bit today (yesterday 90's) expecting a 10 degree drop...allowing for a more comfortable workday outdoors.

Called the EMT's yesterday for a dear neighbor who was having difficulty breathing (dizzy, etc) but all was well after hospital tests. There are only a few people here that haven't reached their 75th year, so those of us (three) who are younger, look after the 'elders'.

I thank God every day for good health. Blessings to all wildclickers.

@danon5,
Wow, Danon! It's 91 sizzling degrees today. I don't have
any pets. Not allowed here, but I click for the survival of whales,
breast cancer, violence against women and 9 other worthy endeavors
including our Rain Forests. I click as if their lives depend on it.
It does, huh? I've done all my errands for today; whoops it is now
93 degrees. Praying for rain!
