I wouldn't be so hard on her. I can't even imagine having to grow up under the rule of that perfectionist.
As far as working, I don't know what she might have done as far as work outside the Stewart empire, but I'm prettty sure she's more than paid her dues having Martha as her mother.
I don't think I would have made it a mile in her shoes.
