fluttery cursor with a mac

I've been through this before. It was of course fixed when I got a whole new hard drive, but I've never understood it. It is simply impossible that I have much stuff now taking up space on the computer. I will admit to leaving the computer on, having read at some point that this was ok. Perhaps it's not,

I don't want to call the mac people as I don't want to bleed dollars.

It has been in the past fixable if I shut the computer down and start anew. But.. this shouldn't be happening in the first place.
I also had a thread a few years ago about odd windows popping up whenever the cursor pointed at anything, and that was never resolved. Those were windows with choices to pick, very invasive, very clogging. That happened again today. I think this mac could hardly be more clean..

So far I'm dealing with it by shutting down, but that's no real answer.

@djjd62,
It is hard now to remember what finally shut my mac down earlier this year, but it died in the water, and the mac place said there was mechanical failure. New hard drive, total computer joy, and now I see the damned flutter - and worse, those weird windows.. windows of choices wherever you aim the cursor, with no shortcutting to go where you wished or do what you wanted to, usually remediated by shutdown, and then back to normal for a while.

@ossobuco,
Ickily, the printer revs up by itself once in a while, albeit quietly.

@ossobuco,
What type of MAC do you have?
What OS are you running on it?
What type of hardware (mouse in particular) are you using?
Does the cursor "flutter" happen only on web pages or does it happen on any application you are running?

Can you describe this "cursor flutter" in more detail. Do you mean the cursor vanishes briefly and then comes back, or does the cursor jump around on the screen.

Does the cursor flutter when you are not touching the mouse, or only when you are moving the mouse?

@rosborne979,
I have a desk top, OS X 10.5.8
I'll have to stare at my mouse. I'll be back when I engage my magnifying glass.
It flutters, seemingly, when the macchina is tired. The cursor jumps around.

On flutter with mouse or not, I'll have to pay attention and get back to you, but as a guess, it seems mouse connected.

Meantime, thanks for your catching this, Rosb.

@ossobuco,
This could be an indication that the battery of your mouse is in need of
replacement, osso.

@CalamityJane,
Really? That would be an easy answer. Thanks for the clue.

@ossobuco,
This is still happening. Oy vey. I recognize it, but don't know what to question. Am entirely loathe to throw credit card money to fix this.

As I stare at the screen, my printer makes a wee noise.

I suppose I will have to go to see the mac people, but I'd like to be armored to talk with them.

@ossobuco,
Is your mouse wired or wireless?

Did you google the problem to see if anyone else is having it?

My initial guess would be that you have a bad mouse or mouse connection.

You could borrow another mouse to try or buy a mouse which is returnable if it doesn't help.

@rosborne979,
Just saw this, Ros. It's wired.

I'll try a new mouse. This has aggravated me off and on for a while, back into the years before my hard drive devolving a bunch of months ago. Apparently the cursor hits something - often on sports stuff like Sports Illustrated or ESPN, and all hell breaks loose, shutting down being a way to contain it. I don't like it happening when my computer is relatively clean re my own files.

@ossobuco,
The printer business, forget it, I failed to shut it off.

The fluttering just happened again.

I need to remember/note what occurs step by step.

@ossobuco,
Meantime, I forgot about it possibly or probably being about the mouse.

I'll order a new one. Having an extra cannot hurt even if that is not it.
