SUB DIO, BRAD LIDGE does it again

The Phillies closer does it again. HE gets the Phillies out of 2 separate 9th inning challenges with the Colo ROCKIES to take the NL division semis and will now face the LA DOGERS for the Pennant. Some of the years best baseball was played atMile High and it reaffirmed my belief in MLB baseball rising to the event.

The only problem was the officiating, it really sucked. Do they hire only visually challenged Umps?

@farmerman,
The Phillies are a fun team to watch. They have a ton of strength and they all love to play the game . The Dogers may have a good team, but theyre nit half as much fun to watch on TV.

When was that? 1994? Back when the Big Cat played there?

What's going to be fun is watching a championship-costing Lidge meltdown against LA. While he and Madsen got the job done last night (thanks in large part to Huston Street), their regular season shittiness clearly influenced Manuel's decision making last night. Why would you send Cliff Lee out to pitch the 8th with 105 pitches already under his belt if you trusted your bullpen?

Anyway, I think we got two good championship matchups worth watching.

That most certainly was some of the best, most nerve-wracking baseball I'd seen all season, and I've watched or listened to 98% of the Phillies' games this year.

I suspect that a collective groan went up from Phillies' fans in the 9th in games three and four when they saw Lidge warming up and again when they saw him coming to the mound. I was sweating it out, and I resorted to turning my Chihuahua's ears inside out to put her into rally mode. (I wasn't wearing a baseball cap at the time.) She cheered mightily for the Phils, and they won. I'm keeping her handy for the NLCS and the World Series.

Go Phils!

@Always Eleven to him,
I think Charlie needed to makes sure that Lidge was going to be a contributor during the playoffs. On the Sunday night game, I stayed up till the bittter end at 2AM and watched as Lidge looked like he was gonna bring the entire game down. He got his save in the same fashion that wed grown accustomed (By skin of teeth). In game 4 he fanned the same player and conned him into swinging at that slider . Imagine how Tulowitsky feels. He will be made the goat for the last 2 losses.

Continue the competitive peregrinations Phillies !

@farmerman,
I think that Charlie needed to make sure that Lidge knew that he could contribute in the rest of the playoffs. I'm no sports psychologist, but shouldn't an adult who has a $12 mil contract already know that he's expected to contribute? And I'm not sure that his "prop-Brad's-ego-up" moves are worth it to the millions of fans who groan, sweat, bite their nails, wring their hands, hold their breath, and cross their fingers whenever they see him warming up in the 9th.

Can't wait for the NLDS to start -- have gone through baseball withdrawal these last two nights.

@Always Eleven to him,
There will be an endless Novena at Pete and Paul on Broad Street starting tomorrow. There will be several side room novenas for Lidge and Lee. Who the hell is pitching tomorrow?
