key to the door of the "st. petri church" in hamburg .
it's cornerstone was laid in 1342 and the church was enlarged in several stages over the centuries .
the church - and much of the city - was destroyed in "the big fire of 1842" .
much of the artwork was rescued and the church was rebuilt much in the same style and was re-dedicated in 1849 .
while it was partially destroyed during the second world war it now stands again in its old splendour in the centre of the city .
