In 2001 the Geological Society of America did an expedition to NAica to do some age dating on the selenite crystals. The safety protocols were so extreme that the investigators couldnt spend more than about 30 min inside .

What a rock collection that'd make. Ive heard that they will try to extract some for the Mexican museum and the SMithsonian (as soon as they can figure out how to keep the crystals from turning into a pile of dust as they give off water.
