My wife could not log into her hotmail yesterday. Even with MSN helping, she could not get in. She was advised to open a new MSN account. Apparently, her email has been used for the one purpose, of a hoax message to all in her address book. It reads:
"

concern over my situation,I really need this help so much
and on time because i am in a terrible and tight situation
here, I don't even have money to feed myself for a day
which means i had been starving,so I will appreciate
whatever you can afford and i promise to pay you back as
soon as i return home without any delay.

As a precaution, she changed all her information on other web sites, and so did I, with the exception of able2know.
I googled the address mentioned in the letter. That's a place in London that has a pub and some radio stations.
@edgarblythe,
that sucks, ed.
I tried to sell a car on E-bay a while back, and almost abandoned my address from all the crap that got thrown at me, from some kinda surprising places.
good luck...
@Rockhead,
A friend once tried to sell a motorcycle on line. He had some guy trying to get him to ship it overseas, before receiving payment. Fortunately for him, he was not stupid.
@edgarblythe,
do you use any protection with your computer?
(safe cyber-sex and all that...)
@Rockhead,
I have Windows Live One Care
Plus I avoid porn and other unsafe sites.
@edgarblythe,
yeah, I know nothing 'bout that one. (not a windows guy)
I avoid Baptist sites myself, but to each his own...
@edgarblythe,
Spoofing the "from" address on an E-mail is ridiculously simple, and it doesn't require hacking into the the actual E-mail system that someone uses.
The failure of MSN to be able to gain access to the mail is really troubling. I hope you chose a different E-mail provider.
@DrewDad,
Yes, a totally different provider.
@edgarblythe,
Wow, sorry to hear this, Edgar. I hope you have better choices available.
The internet provider that I have here in Canada (Shaw), provides access, plus they also make available web email addresses, as well as ones that sit on your computer in my Outlook Express.
So far nobody appears to be hurt in this transaction. Hopefully it has ended.
