@ossobuco,
I don't know what I would do if I lost one of my dogs. They are part of my family, I can't even imagine Sad

@jcboy,
I didn't have my own dog until I was your age or a little older. Fell hard, I did.
He was found by my gallery partner's boyfriend on the railroad tracks behind our place, as a puppy. I bonded. But he was a born runaway, and our old eagle's lodge back yard went the length of the block, many other businesses along the way, with small openings in the fence.

That's part of how I got to know Venice, getting in my car and combing the streets for him the few times he ran away. The first time, I cried for three days straight. My gallery partner got us another dog right away, but I was still crying. Then the next week Sandpaw came back to our front door. Later took a couple of other trips. I remember getting a call from a gala party, gay if I remember, a first for me.. and from the local fire station (it was a mothers' day, and they offered me treats when I came to get him.) Oh, and the people that ran a skateboard place kitty corner from the famed Carousel on the Pier. We managed to keep him in there, after those episodes, but in our transitional place where we later rented a house, each of our boyfriends and her son around, Sandpaw got into the front yard and jumped the fence. Such a venice boy. Never saw him again.

He was gorgeous in his venice shepherd way, and I hope he was taken by someone who cared for him. Of course he had tags. I called a few times to see if he had been picked up as a runover dog. No.
In the follow weeks I put up flyers (useless, given we were two blocks from the beach that went for miles) and I bothered every possible dog pound in the LA area several times for weeks.

Skipping along to Pacco (italian for package) - he was found sauntering down highway 101, nabbed by someone who took him to the humane society, where I found him a month later. We were quickly attached and went through stuff together, thick and thin, but lots of good stuff. I was a mess when I put him down.

Now, as is obvious, I still enjoy talking about him - that was almost five years ago. The sorrow went away - the reminiscence is dear.

@ossobuco,
Thanks, Osso. We knew when we got him that it was a possibility since it's genetic at birth in some of his breed (he's a Boykin Spaniel). Mr.Irish doesn't think that's the case with our Jack, though, since he's only shown symptons in the past year or so. He's been doing a lot of research and mentioned the stem cell therapy when I asked about maybe getting the Vet to prescribe some pain medication or cortizone or something. He's taking him in tomorrow. We boarded him over the holidays and he lost a lot of weight...we don't think he ate much at all while we were gone (he likes someone to stay and talk with him while he eats -- I just figured he'd get over that quirk if he got really hungry). He's eating well now, tho, so he's probably gained a little back.

@Irishk,
The first time we left our (found in a lumber yard) setter for about five days at, yes, a reputable kennel, he lost a lot of weight. Ever after that, we left him home with his own yard and dog house and had trusted neighbors that he knew play with him and feed him. Things went much better then.

I didn't have that trouble with the pacc as either he was with me all the time, or at my business partner's house with his dog friend, or once in a while at doggy day care together, and maybe twice, in a place where he had gotten to know the people at, for a few days.

Glad he's gained some weight back.

@EqualityFLSTPete,
What a wonderful photo! That really captures the love between the two of you. Every dog lover here understands that special bond, but it's not always easy to get a photo that reflects it so well. Yours is great. And Shelby looks adorable (so do you Smile). A happy looking pair. So nice to see.

@EqualityFLSTPete,
I have to call you Anthony if you don't mind. When I called you eflstp, it didn't seem right. Never mind, not euphonious. People call me osso here, but I'm also Jo. Use either.

This little girl followed Mr.Irish home early this morning when he was out walking our Jack. She has no collar and no tags...she was really hungry and thirsty. She's about 18 inches tall...haven't weighed her yet. We think she's a little less than a year old - she's really frisky (wearing poor Jack out!) - well-behaved, she is house-trained and answers to normal commands (sit, stay, lay down).

Anyone have a guess as to her breed? Mr.Irish thinks some type of Cocker Spaniel mix. He's at our Vet with her now to see if maybe she has a microchip ID. We notified our HOA and also a couple of shelters in case anyone is looking for her (they must be frantic)!

If no one claims her, I WANT TO KEEP HER Smile

@Setanta,
Omg, she's IRISH!!!

Vet says she's a Wheaton Terrier with a really bad haircut lol. Look at this photo I found when I googled Wheaton Terrier! They could be twins!

I have butterflies. I want her back with her family, but I'd love to just keep her, too. No microchip. Guess we'll have to put up fliers and stuff.
