Zero's galore and why????

We have one particular member here on our forum that has the stupefying habit of zeroing all posts on a thread that are of an opposing view.

I am hoping some of you who are wiser than I will offer some insight into what one might possibly gain from only seeing opinions that agree with ones own skewed view of life.

(it is not just in politics, the maroon does it on help threads as well)

beyond childish stupidity, please help me understand what might motivate such silliness...

(i'm not naming him, but then I doubt that is necessary for our purposes)

It's the only way they have of effectively annoying people, as most of us just ignore them.

@panzade,
he's special that way.

dys dislikes many if not most canadiens. but especially dj and mame as i remember it...

seriouser though, anybody got a theory on why a half rational mind needs to wipe out his view of all counter opinion?

@Cycloptichorn,
More than that. Possibly you have not noticed the absence of a certain insulting and abrasive late nite poster? If a single post is downrated enough, it collapses. One of those votes was my own. Maybe it's an old age thing, but I find myself becoming less tolerant of direct, personal insults, 'specially when they turn up in almost every post.

It isn't about opposing viewpoints.

Why would you be worried about one of these on a forum? Confused

The best solution is just to eat them, and then they go away.

this is what Robert's asked us to do, so I'm right in there thumbing down the insults
fewer on ignore, a few more being thumbed down
that way, newbies who haven't adjusted their settings aren't exposed to the nastiness

"quote" the nastiness and I'll do the same - still following Robert's suggestion/request

say something I don't agree with - but say it in a sensible way? as likely as not, I'll thumb it up. It's not about the comment, but the presentation.

I've had the probable subject of this thread on ignore for so long, I no longer really think about him.

@ehBeth,
I'm not talking about that, i see it as well.

this is an individual who posts and then goes back through the page and wipes out all his opposing posts.

(not worried 'bout my own zeroes either, it comes with the territory)

@roger,
That depends on how you've set your preferences. No amount of other people's thumbs down will make anything disappear for me - only my clicking on it will.

On the Zero Zorro, I've noticed. I think of it as extended childhood, but that's too much of a negative towards children.

@ossobuco,
Well, I know that. Still, if it's enough the troll gets no response, it eventually goes away. Anyway, that's the theory and it has worked at least once. For me, that means batting 1000.
