Maine Coons and Hairballs/Vomiting

As usual, I cannot find the thread I meant to respond to, so I'll just have to start a new thread.

Whoever it was (so sorry!) had a Maine Coon cat and wanted to find a "Hairball Remedy" for its frequent barfing of hairballs.

Here's a photo of Happy Kitten at 1 year old (and how the heck do I get flickr photos to appear in my message? I'm lost!)

I used a "Fur Scraper" on Happy, actually a "Shedding Blade," I think this one was meant for dogs. Link here:

At any rate, Happy LOVES to be groomed with this thing, and I get an astonishing amount of fur off him using it.

So much fur, it looks like a Happy Kitten duplicate!

I also find Fish Oil to be helpful with cat hairballs, and cats seem to love it.

Pleez, let me know how to post those Flickr photos inline!

And I'm sorry I can't remember who asked about Maine Coon fur-barfing in the first place, but here's your answer: a shedding blade, and Fish Oil (works for me!)

I used to put butter between the toes of my long hair cats and that took care of the fur balls. Once a week they got a tablespoon of cod liver oil mixed into an egg yolk and mixed that into the kibble.

@BorisKitten,
It was probably me. I have a 3 year old Maine Coon and she often gets hairballed up that she really looks sick. Weve since used a "dethatcher tool" like yours and have merely increased her intake of LAxatone. (She will crash through a brick wall to get Lxatone, she loves the flavor so we have no problem medicating her.

Thanks for the help, should the Laqxatone need a booster, we will try the cod liver oil .

Oh Lookie, I did it! I think the problem was I always copied the entire URL, including stuff after the .jpg.

Now that I know how, imagine the cat-fur-in-trash photos I can post!

Thanks, Region

@farmerman,
That fur-scraper thingie is wonderful, and thank goodness Happy really likes the process.

That fur-in-trash photo? I'd fur-scraped him 2 days prior as well(!) I'm really hoping he's just shedding for summer right now.

Will keep an eye out for the Laxatone stuff, in case Happy needs it in the future (he's only a year old). Gads, how much fur can one cat shed, anyway?
