write'em fast
til they run out of gas
Don't even thought
Of what you maybe ought
just give a shot
to whatt you ought not
Quit correcting words
they become dead birds
quaffing NEVERMORE
in endless backlore

rain drenches, quenches, pours on down
drowns out every god awful sound
want to listen to tv but cant
rain rain drenches, quenches, silence out loud
thinking this water will keep on coming now

leave it for a rainy day
for all the old men and women to come out and play
catching the words with nets in the rain
arranging, engaging, rearranging.
finding beauty in strange places
taking pleasure in sharing to new faces

a round of applause around your good clause
is always a welcome cheer to my ear
but don't forget to criticize as well
should take advantage of ourselves while we're here
one last thing, don't forget to spell,
if you plan to write you better learn it well

[ironically...i had to use a spellchecker here for the first time because I did not know how to spell awful! aweful, awefull, awfull....auuugh]

For some reason, in my older age my spelling seems to get worse all the time.

Taken swiftly from their lives
to watch their host sharpen knives
demands and purposes cannot be met
soulless eyes to not forget
they found you lying in your bed
snatched you up and cut off your head

Hard to gulp without a head.

At table, the silence deafens
like a ghostly shriek
echoing within a tomb.
He reads the morning papers,
she looks at him and waits
for a single word,
but says nothing.
Click click go the front door keys
as he leaves for work.

Then come the screams,
screams from nightmares
disguised as dreams.
The china is vulnerable.
Plates are thrown, then a cup.
Collecting herself she thinks,
"The maid will pick that up."

No no, they didn't lose your shoes, that was a bad New Year's Eve party. Don't you remember? Erm, probably not. Laughing

Such lovely puns wrapped up in that....but on the earthly plane, I agree, completely irrelevant to the poem. Laughing

I never said that I was going to be a speller when I grew up.

edgar, we have another delightful convert
JL has written a three line verse,
All about rain,
A blessing; a curse

( I love it, JL)

Cav, of course, at the top of his form,
Still tends to awe us
Inspire and inform

And colorbook thinks of the
silence in losing
A head that has gone
Without any choosing.

There's Bo, quipping
"Made in America"
and here's late Letty
Stepping our of "character". Razz

Reported your post,
a small error in judgement,
but we shall forgive.
The strange ways of A2K
are mysterious, but fun.

Edgar, my spelling has also deteriorated in recent years (in my sixties). I was always a "natural" speller, rarelly mispelling words because of an ability to visualize them. I think spelling talent is a neurological condition. I've known very smart people who could not spell and dumb people who could. This is why I've always considered spelling bees to be silly. Something is happening to the brain with age that causes a decline in ability to spell and to remember personal names. I think it's natural.
