don't call me no boy
boss brown swung and the brawl was on
i kept to the ship
drunkenly dreaming and unaware
my bed gently rocking
right off the shore of hong kong

i'd seen the city
found myself out of place and sad
the crew bent on spending
what would i do with sharkskin suits
reel to reel tape decks
i stayed off the shore of hong kong

radley blune drowned
on this night in the deep dark water
his long legs failed
when he swam from the pier toward the ship
and darin jones
returned with a chicken of which he bit off the head

@edgarblythe,
Even the moonbeams
are hesitant to cut through
the chilly night sky

empty rooms of forgotten dreams,
hollow footsteps disturb the dust.
lazy starlight chasing moonbeams,
poking at memories buried in rust.

Snow is receding,

dry dead grass now re-appears

@edgarblythe,
thanks Edgar.

The landscape here is still about 2/3 covered with a few inches of snow, but the expanses of exposed grass are growing.

In fact, today someone in my church brought in witch hazel buds which they found on the sunny side of their house.

They had cut a few sprigs, took them into the house, put the stems in warm water, and lo! --the fragrant buds opened!

We have some plants making new leaves. Fig, Arazona ash - some others. I figure it will be spring around here in a week or two.

i really love the pines
the stately long wind sighing
yellow pollen clouds
in the raven woods

the summer i love them
the flighty blue in branches
shyly smitten jays
on hope raveled limbs

the winter not daunt pines
their patience frozen stoic
icy solemn skies
and owl question mark

i heard the sound
an amphitheater of birds
black stipples across the forest
and one backfired truck

silence

again the wall
the raucous chatter of birds
in ripples then moved along
my thoughts traveled with them

justice is a word
disenfranchised heard
when the boot came down

freedom is a song
falsly convicted sang
when the needle slipped in

dinner is a thought
war orphan could not know
when the mine exploded

surcease of sorrow
the aware cannot expect
until the wheel quits turning
