lost almost drunk in old san luis
somehow i just can't find the border
i hitched i got stranded in the land of ease
im walking and asking in english for the border

one day i was leaving san diego
with my thumb he drove with lightning speed
we almost died in the high sierra
that car lost its will and stalled in the heat near san luis

he said i'll pay we'll play in mexico
a stranger set us on the dusty street
it was cerveza for me and my amigo
he vanished in a manner not altogether discreet

lost almost drunk in old san luis
somehow i just can't find the border
i hitched i got stranded in the land of ease
im walking and asking in english for the border

men sit at ease on the wooden walk-way
and one will point his finger to the north
should i load the lettuce trucks or merely segue
because i need to see my momma back home in fort worth

lost almost drunk in old san luis
somehow i just can't find the border
i hitched i got stranded in the land of ease
im walking and asking in english for the border

well...imagine that..I read your last post here which was on a separate page from the rest. When reading your words, edgar, I could feel the rhythm....you may be a song writer after all

I like it too, Edgar
It's got soul

It made me think of Bruce Springsteen
I mean that as a compliment
He's playing in Dublin 17th - 19th Nov btw
(Bruce, not Edgar)

It's a good one, Edgar

I think Reverend Springsteen should lead a congregation
With common sense and songs, he'd lead us to salvation
We'd overcome with love the world's hate and condemnation
If we were baptized members of Bruce Springsteen's congregation.

And all the brothers and sisters would be climbing Jacob's ladder.
Gay or straight, rich or poor, black or white, it wouldn't matter
The flags that separate us would lie forgotten, torn and tattered
Cause we'd all be brothers and sisters who were climbing Jacob's ladder.

And we could all look forward to great concerts in the sky
He'd give us all an instrument and teach us how to fly
We'd live now what was waiting in the sweet by and by
When we could all look forward to great concerts in the sky.

So, I think Reverend Springsteen should lead a congregation
With common sense and songs, he'd lead us to salvation
We'd overcome with love the world's hate and condemnation
If we were baptized members of Bruce Springsteen's congregation.

*Saw Bruce Springsteen's Seeger Session tour. Oh my goodness - it couldn't have been any more inspiring and amazing. What a group of musicians. What songs. What a party. I felt that as long as he stayed on that stage - everything in the whole world would be alright. I really do think he should start a religion. I'd follow it. If you can't get a ticket - buy the dvd and just try to imagine 10,000 people singing "When the Saints go Marching In" and "This Little Light of Mine" and really meaning every word. It was a transcendant experience. He should be regarded as a national treasure, because aside from being a nice man and a great musician, he's a restorer of hope.

He is a national treasure to us, his fans. Your poem about him is a good one. I will come back later and read it again, after I am wide awake.

not all songs will be sung
not all words on our tongue
not all tears will be shed
nor all appetites fed

loss is a state of limbo
when life is all akimbo
and the tanks on the lawn
easily spotted by dawn

you toss away the wrapper
careless with leaves of paper
you are down and too sick
sink into the music

(in country song mode) Very Happy

Empty pockets make me hungry
while the weather makes me cold
and the seasons of my life
make me feel so very old

I'll make it somehow this time
a dollar for a drink
and wander down the walkway
to allow myself to think

and when I'm feeing better
I'll pick myself up from regret
and pay that jailer money
for one damn cigarette

Edgar - I've been hitting the guitar with your song -even singing it (in a fashion)
I thought you might be interested in what's come up.

Hope you don't mind me doing this?

These are just basic chord changes (in my version) of your song -
Last chord of each line repeated for 6 beats
I can't write music properly so bare with me
The fancy stuff comes later…

Is there a title btw?

I'm really taken with this song, Edgar - but I'm positive it needs to be sung by someone without a south London accent!
Still, I already tried to on a friend and she gave me a kiss and told me to tell you it's 'special'
: ) so thanks…

peace,
Endy
