the waltz of the willow

bold red bird in the whipping wind
riding on branches that shake and bend
a winter freeze when the night grows calm
bird and tree and morning an amazing psalm

i love the animals who wont make war
who dont assault and will never preach
who eat what they need when hungry
who drift silently off when madmen screech

before a bright and silvery moon
the penumbra of hair in silhouette
fine and soft
the music simmering little rythems
from the bose hidden in the deep shadows
air timeless
no movement but of the searching heart
and the shimmering of drops coursing down
lost and dark
and the sliding moon off course in clouds
the curse of darkness made more bitter still
by nights gall

piltdown man was the smartest of them all
now you saw him now saw him not a tall
he had a cranium massive jaw
imagine a fish inside that maw
hunter of the wild dewberry so they say
we most got to know him then he went away

the wounded earth and slaughtered peoples
guilty of no wrongness except being if that be wrong
huddle together in mounds of dirt and bloodiness
and dont know who won the war or particularly care

My Foolish Desires

Bring it to fruition
Or bring to an end!
I toast the sky
Oh, woeful are my words
If ever you grant me
My foolishness!
Quickly, I beg of the sky
Consider the foolishness
Of my words
Fault of the spirits of wine
Not the true spirit
Of my humble existence
Begging for the extremes
Either fruitful gain
Or death of purpose
I foolishly demand
Tomorrow's revelation
Before it is time
Rather than grant me
My foolish desires
Grant me instead
Wisdom and patience
To watch the tree grow
Until an abundance of fruit
Can be witnessed
Begging for fruit
When winter still prevails
Robs a tree of its potential
Grant me the patience
To wait another season
When the fruit
May be abundant and full

It seems......more than one of us has had an emotional week or two...

hats off to you Edgar.....and gentle smiles of understanding and compassion

moon took a dive through the banks of clouds
scudding over the beach, landing in the cobalt sea
the meanwhile sun bleeped a red peep over the horizon
gathered itself in a ball in the mystery air of man time
saunter and scold the gulls kiss approval the dolphin
and hang time over the sail in the cloudless norm

a grain for my mind
a field with no end in view
i stand in the rows
survey the stands that grew
then the fallow lines
and a space with nothing new
for my grain to land
to grow alone proud and true

Edgar - your stuff just gets better and better.

I read a book the other day
The author claimed to know the way
"We're all just dreams, and all are one
there is no "you" or "I" or "sun"-
there is no "moon" or "earth" or "life"
there is no "real", there is no "strife"
We're all just consciousness -aware
until we sleep, when thoughts laid bare
in dreams where sleep's desires unfold
are where we have our fortune's told.

He said, "Our essence never dies-
we can choose truth or follow lies."
I liked his thoughts, but ask and sigh,
If I'm not me, then who and why?

I am slowly getting inspired again. I go through periods of productivity like that and then have to take a break. I like your writing. Good word choices and subject matter.

Thank you- I do appreciate your comments - as I do respect your ability as a writer. I think you're really unique and very good.

I always feel that my writing is infused with so much predictable emotion whereas yours seems unique and fresh to my eye and ear. I wonder if it's a male/female difference. Anyway - I really like the stuff you've posted over the last couple of weeks.

aint no use to moan about the bad things
it aint never gonna change
your gonna blow up the world in part then
youre gonna think the peace deranged
thats why youre gonna groan about the small things
you aint never gonna change
youre gonna blow up the peace then
when the bombs get tall and the day grows short
you get into the game for sport
aint never gonna be no real peace anyway
but its your choice you made it yesterday

im standing like a reed in a storm raged pond
no use to complain you wont respond
aint never gonna be no real peace anyway
but its your choice you made it yesterday

greet each day sweetly
as though it were your last
answer critics discreetly
revere but best the past

youve heard these admonitions
to the point theyve gotten absurd
but when lifes demonstrations
occur youll be glad to take my word

The Promised Land?

There are no words to say
Another sad, violent day.
Green hopes turning brown
Blue skies falling down
Resigned, in mid-sigh
We pause and ask, 'why'?
Mid-Eastern democracy
or western hypocrisy?
Babies dismembered
Bush fails to remember
the cost of such bombs
What planet's he on?
Miss Rice takes her time
Children die as she dines
Small dark-haired young girls
just statistics in their world
Sweet curly-haired boys
dark eyes, guns for toys
should be safe at home sleeping
are lost lambs, mothers weeping
on fire-singed playgrounds
more grief to be spread round.

Lebananon, and Hezbollah
suicide, jihad, Allah
Israel, stolen homeland
Zion, bombs, Yahweh-'I AM'
Which god mandates this hell?
Which faith loves the death knell?
In theTorah and/or Koran
vengeful hearts /murderous hands?
Love lies buried in concrete
Peace entombed in black defeat
Life's diminished to raw fear
In a desert of slow tears.
There are no words to say
Another sad, violent day
Green hopes turn to brown
Blue skies falling down.

Infant's body
all toasty
and crisp
school girl's hand
blown off at the
wrist
momma searching
eyes out of mist
through moaning
and
wailing
and pounding of
fists
minds that are
aching
nothing left to
wish

hang a lantern in these dead eyes
that i might witness war from the other side
see how the glow spots on the rise
a crater ringed by human matter undignified

put on my face the tears i cannot cry
place the childrens bodies on the slab beside me
someone may come to claim us by and by
i long please for the cool earth a box to hide me
